I'm seeing different hues (gloss black, slightly gloss grey, and same color as base) for this side bottom thing. What determines the side bottom?

I believe that’s just the reflection off the gloss black.

I know the diesel variants have dark grey trim instead of gloss black. We don't get diesel in the US, but maybe you were seeing some pics from Europe?

Also could just be the reflection. Not sure if the gloss black has any metallic flakes

Every single car, no matter where you get it, has gloss black lower trim. There are no options from BMW. Get em painted or wrapped.

You can order a 230 with the rockers in body color. Maybe OP saw this as well?

230i non M-Sport in USA comes with body colored rocker panels.. I have M240 so they are black gloss and afterwards elected to have them and my front end wrapped with XPEL for 10 year warranty

I have a 230 M Sport, which has gloss gray lower rocker panels. Base is body colored, M240 is gloss black.

I think a BG 240 would look good with body colored rockers and with CF winglets.
