Dealership service advice.

Morning friends,

I live in a market with two BMW stores. A new fancy one and an old run down one. Neither are great when it comes to service. Some issues I've had over the years

Performing $7k worth of work on my car without verbal or signed confirmation
Put the wrong tires on my car

Car actually exploded about a mile after leaving service (differential repair and I assume they didn't refill fluids or have a gasket in place)

Scratches in my leather seats

Was told there was an oil filter leak after an oil change (there wasn't. I checked) and when I got home there was oil coming from the bottom of the car where the oil plug is. They screwed up a simple oil change. Great..

Most recently, on my 2022 m240i, scratches on my driver door and a scratch etched into the plastic of the bumper. During this service the bumper was off the car so it makes sense that they did it.. They also had tail light trim off the car and tossed into my trunk.

Now this is a two part question. What do I do about service?? Drive 1-2 hours to the next closest store? Or..?

And even more importantly, how do I get the dealer to fix the damage to my car? I emailed the service manager and he gave me a canned "we'll look intk it response", but haven't heard back.

Has anyone dealt with these nightmares before. Is this typical for car dealers or do I just have bad BMW stores? (note, I primarily work on my own cars so bmw is the only dealer experience I've ever had)

Sorry for the long thread and thanks in advance!

I'd definitely start going to another dealer and talk to them before hand about your previous experience and feel them out based on their response. Also, contact BMW NA and see if there is anything they can do or recommend. Worth a shot at least. What happened to your new M240i that all that work needed to be done?

If another BMW dealer is within a reasonable distance to you that would be my recommendation.

But a few times with other brands of cars I have gotten lousy service almost everywhere. My solution was to just buy another brand of car.

While I need a car I don't need a Ford, Chevy, VW or even a BMW (although so far my local BMW dealer has been superb!). There are plenty of other car brands to choose from.

Sorry should have clarified, only thing I've had done on the m240i is a mount replaced that keeps the rear trim together. Very odd that that would fail (I suspect it was an issue that wasn't caught in QA). Which is where the scratches came from. Confirmed today that they are going to have their body shop address.

The other issues were on my 230i.

Everyone's great there except my experience with F&I. They are on the middle of a major remodel now and in curious how things will look. I remember when I moved to Austin and went there for the first time I was super excited about their customer lounge (about 15 years ago) . It's just dated now. My use of worn down was the wrong phrasing, just been annoyed about service issues.

Why do ya keep going back to em with a track record of very poor service. Is it the only shop that can service ya within 100 miles?

Pretty much. Only two stores in my market. Next others are an hour+ away. Still tho, at this point might as well try those out.
