iDrive 8 screen integration with dashboard (2023 M240i).

I'm sorry, but this is NOT a good look and just screams cheapness. I guess this is what we have to look forward to in the new M2.

The writing was on the wall as we knew this was going to happen. The “kickstand” looks like a total after thought. At least on the X7 LCI it was better executed.

This has been beat to death in countless threads in this section over the past year. Time to get over it.

You can get over it. Most of us have. Some even like it.

This thread is just beating a dead horse.

I generally don’t like it but it does have its advantages.I sat in an i4 with the screen and it does wrap around the driver which gives the driver a great view of the screen. The resolution and graphics are very well done.If you look at a new video of the M3 LCI you can see the M color theme in the screen which looks really good.I just wish there was an option for circular gauges and that the screen was integrated better into the dash.If you really hate it then your only option is to wait for the LCI and hope they introduce a better looking screen.

Right, because all the bitching and complaining is not going to change a thing. It is set in stone.

If you don't like the way it looks just wait for the LCI.

One more thing, keep your finger crossed, no telling if those BMW design team jokers will make things better or worse on the LCI. Flip a coin.

+1 and an LCI does not always constitute an update to iDrive. That is an event that tends to happen across the board.

As a very loyal BMW owner, I have every right to bitch (even though you are right, it won't change anything).

I've noticed cost cutting through the last 3 BMW's I've owned. My E92 335i iDrive was beautifully integrated into the dashboard. Then my F30 340i screen was cheaper and mounted on top of the dash (like my F87).

Now it's these awful screens. I'm glad I purchased my F87 because if BMW keeps going in this direction, it will be my last BMW.

And I know, I know, nobody in here cares that I won't buy another BMW. It's the way I feel.

Right, but I think the main complaint that most have is the way the screen is integrated into the dash. Most LCI updates also update the dash. And unlike older models, iDrive now gets OTA updates so theoretically should get the same updates as newer models. This of course is also hardware dependent, if newer updates are too CPU intensive for older iDrive units they will not receive the same updates.

Looks like BMW did a reasonable integration in the newly designed X1. Why can't they do the same with the 2/3/4 series/M cars?

So we just need to dremel the kickstand off and we’re good!

Looks nice without that terrible kickstand. Dunno why they didn't just do this.

Ok so the X1 seems to have a much wider bezel. Not sure how preferable that is.

The kickstand tho, is it actually casting a shadow along with the screen onto the dash in this photo? I really hope this isn't the G87 iteration…

If Mercedes-Benz can do a dashboard like this, I don't why BMW can't. This is the 2023 C-Class.

Is that really that much better? It's two "slapped on" screens rather than one.
