Install Difficulty: 1/5
Quality: 5/5
Performance: 2/5

2022 M240i X-drive
Miles: 7,500
Mods: None

Just installed this product as my first "performance" mod. Install was smooth and had no issues. Parts are solid quality and as to be expected from Dinan. I know this is more of a noise-maker and the performance gains are very minimal. That being said there was definitely some placebo effect from the enhanced noises. Throttle feels a bit more responsive?

One thing I'm confused about is the sound when I let off the gas. I realize there's no BOV but the sound it makes almost sounds like it's getting bogged down. Anyone else experience this?

Worth the $500? There's nothing else for the car at the moment lol so if you're bored by all means. Hopefully suspension parts and tuning becomes available soon.

Confirmed the noise when you let off the throttle is excess boost out of the waste gate.

Mechanic opened the hood today to perform state inspection and found the carbon lid to the air box just floating around in the engine bay not attached to anything.

It appears the little plastic push pins used to mount the lid to the air box all broke or wiggled out of the holes. Will reach out to Dinan regarding this issue.

Anyone else have this issue?

I actually removed the lid a few weeks ago...

The sound is nice

Have not felt any power loss yet

edit: should mention, I have had fitment issues with the intake - one of the pins does not fit into the drilled holes for the cover. It didn't fall off - but I took it off to see if there were any ill effects...

Yeah running the intake open shouldn't be an issue. It is a little annoying that the plastic hardware fasteners they provide with a $500 kit is junk.

The bottom fastener of the plastic pin is too small and goes straight through the holes on the carbon lid. This prevents the top pin from penetrating the bottom pin far enough to make a secure connection.

Yeah, it's pretty surprising. I'd expect Dinan quality to be better than this.

They should make good on it though if enough attention is brought to it

Update: Reached out to Dinan and couldn't be happier with their response. They sent me a new carbon cover via overnight shipping. The new cover has slightly smaller holes which allows for the pins to securely fasten.

10/10 customer service

It doesn’t say anywhere on dinans site but I’ve had oiled filters before an I’m 99% sure this is a dry filter. I felt no oil residue on it.

Just to add that our intact tract does not have a MAF like previous gen b58s to get all messed up from over oiled filters. We now have a temp sensor instead of a maf.

Does anyone know if all the intakes for this car make that noise after letting off the throttle?

Lol, I commented on that video 2 months ago it sounded like loose farting when off the throttle, that noise?.

After watching that video I made a mental note that if I got a M240i that an CAI kit would be the last thing I do lol.

I’d rather take that $500 and put it towards a Milltek exhaust and call it a day. Or maybe a down pipe but don’t know much about those and researching that right now.
