What do you think my 328i is worth?
Hello all, as the title states, I'm curious to see what the community deems is a fair asking price for my E90 328i. I'm currently in the market for a cheap i3 as a daily driver, already have a M2 for the weekends.
Purchased my 2007 328i 6 speed from a local BMW dealership about 1 year ago with 99k miles. Yes, high miles, and purchase price for the car was $9600. A little on the higher side, but, I made peace with it because its a well equipped car, single owner, all maintenance records on hand, and was/is in amazing condition for the age and mileage. Car is mineral grey, has I-Drive, sport package, sport seats (manual, non-heated unfortunately), sunroof, xenons, and 17" wheels. At the time of purchase, vehicle had a fresh oil change and new brake pads installed by the dealership. Since owning the car, I've replaced the tires with brand new Falkens. I replaced a window regulator, and the driver's door lock actuator (all easy DIY's). Car currently has 107k miles and has been flawless. Only thing I need to do is get the windshield replaced (big crack from a rock chip 3 months into ownership). Overall, the car is in excellent shape inside and out. Only 'major' blemish is a small chip on the rear bumper about half the size of a dime, color matched with Dr. Colorchip. I initially purchased the car for daily driver duties, with plans of converting it into an auto-x machine after a couple of years. So I'm curious what you guys think would be a 'fair' price if you were in my shoes and wanted to sell. I don't NEED to sell, but I'm beginning to toy with the idea. Any feedback would be much appreciated! |

Honestly I think you will be taking a loss on it. If it has a good carfax you might want to list it on cars and bids or try a submission to BAT. Presents well so I say it would be good at 9k and expect offers lower. thats why I suggest auction sites.

Well as everyone knows buying retail from a dealer is always over priced. Buying during this F'd up market is even worse. With that said you over paid and will probably be better off keeping it. 2019 prices were $3-5,000 lower. If you want your money back, hit a deer and total it out on insurance. lol

Real value probably around $5k, but you may get more in this market, although it’s cooled significantly. The car is 16 years old. None of the tech options thst great and are a negative for some. For example, I wouldn’t even want I-drive. It’s outdated, bad, looks worse with the hump, etc. The wood trim is also very undesirable.

It's low mileage for an 07, but I doubt you'd get back what you paid for it - you bought at the peak of the market. Not really the end of the world since it's not all that much money, but that's my read.
Is the car mechanically sorted? You mentioned some repairs of window regulators and door locks, and some basic maintenance like tires and brake pads. How about VCG/OPG/OFHG leaks, stored trouble codes (whether or not they set a CEL), etc.? Do you know if the water pump has been changed? Any idea on the service history of the car before you bought it? I dunno. If it were me, and the car were in good shape, I'd probably keep it. You're not going to get a ton of money for it if you sold anyway, but if it's actually a good example, it'll be hard to replace. My $0.02: e90 for longer trips and/or where you need a little more practicality, M2 for the weekends, and then buy a new fully electric (tax credit eligible) small car as a daily driver. |

You nailed it though, it's going to be very difficult to ever replace in this condition. I was fully aware I was overpaying due to the market and the effects of Covid/car shortage. But, I made peace with it because of the condition, my desire for a 6 speed, and because I was ok with spending $2-3k more for a daily driver I'd be keeping, rather than getting shafted for a newer car with the lease "specials" at the time. I don't NEED to sell the car, and I typically don't think its realistic to never losing money on a car. But, I'm thinking more and more that I should just keep it at this point... |

Add a 3 stage manifold and tune and enjoy it. Oh nope it's California that's not allowed anymore. That sucks. I do like the Mineral Grey it's very much like one of my E36 and an E30. One was Delphin and the other was Granite.
