Is G87 worthy as the last hurrah of ICE M car?
Curious to see what people think of the new car, both aesthetically and mechanically. Mods or employees please do not vote.

Yes. If they do something I like better at LCI or comp/cs/csl, I'll get that one too. But considering the days of ICE are closing, this will be one of the last great ICE cars.

Hmm, I thought 6MT, CF roof are extra cost? We might see closer to $69K with carbon buckets. (Still a good deal)
Would have to see how much it weighs for the lightest spec.

Right. It’ll still be about $15-20k under an M2CS, which lacked a few of these things (buckets, full leather interior, HUD, etc).

Nope.
Still not an attractive car. The rear end and interior in particular. But the worst offense is the weight. Its inexcusable for a small (that's a laugh) performance car. I'd be infinitely happier with 400hp and 3,300 pounds. |

I am enamored of this car right out of the box, so I obviously am in the Mikey Likes it column.
I really would have liked to have seen Thundernight metallic as a palette color option. A bold, Avante Garde design calls for a similar paint scheme imo, and I have little to no doubt that Thundernight would have left me thunderstruck just like it does on the G42. As far as other options, I would have liked to have seen Cup 2 and CCB option. But maybe they are saving that for the M2C.

I chose No because____.
If this truly is the last gen ICE M with a proper transmission, this will be the last M car that a lot of enthusiasts will buy. Therefor I think they should take a page out of the Dodge playbook, yeah you read that right, freaking Dodge, and make unique wild editions (For the Hellcat, Dodge is making all of these crazy last hurrah editions of their Chargers/Challengers).

No because: regardless of how amazing it might drive, it still:
a. Has far too polarising looks. The fact it invokes both love and hate is too divisive to be celebrated. b. Is too large and heavy to be a ‘small fun car’. It’s getting way too close to 2T and is too long. c. Has just tipped over into the ‘too much tech’ basket- screen etc. it’s not a bad thing generally but detracts from being driving machine and is more just machine. So whilst I’m not being negative about it; I don’t think it’s a legend in making. |

No because of the weight. Actually don't mind the looks as it appears in the promo video, but the weight is worse than anyone predicted, 1730kg for 6MT puts it at 200+kg more than an OG

I’m not the target market for this car, I don’t think.
I adored the design of the previous m2. That was such a gorgeous car. Just financially, I don’t quite understand where this new m2 is supposed to be. It’s too expensive to me, why not just get an m3? And, this whole design process of constantly making the next gen heavier and bigger should probably end. Unless they are going to make an m1 again, which will be the old m2 lol. Idk BMW, I love ya but you’re confusing the hell out of me. The g80 HAS grown on me significantly though, so who knows maybe this will too. |

I think so and this is my main reason for getting one.
There are only 5 new cars in Canada bellow $100k that can have a MT, 2 doors, 4 seats, RWD, coupe (M2, Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, and M4 stripped) Mine will only come out on sunny summer days. I believe they might become a collector item at some point. While I love my E90 335i MT, I do miss my E46 M3 MT and its LSD when I open it up. Also, even though my 335i is going strong (only 123k km), it will not last forever. I love MT. |

The car revealed a couple of days ago is just the very beginning of one of the many BMW M models - base of base. It's not even in production yet (production starts this December). As the BMW M party still lasts many years, lots of 'wowzers!' and 'cheerios!' are still possible. So IMHO it's premature to make 'final hurrah' statements.

Do you feel a non-DCT M2 will ever induce "wowzers, cheerios"? I don't think so. If they come up with a novel solution to integrate manual/sequential gearbox into hybrid system, then I will be, but never with the ZF8.
