Oil Pan Gasket Tips.

Well, we are going to do the oil pan gasket on the RWD N51 automatic. Any pointers before we dive in next week? OEM vs elhring gasket? Rtv? Any advice is welcome.

Go review the DIY in the DIY section. It has everything you need to know. Use Ultra Black.

Make sure you get the correct oil pan bolt kit.

The aluminum bolt set for the N51 are used for auto and manual setups. You'll have some leftover long bolts if you have an auto.

The authoritative forum DIY on the oil pan gasket (OPG) that Efthreeoh mentioned is here. And it is best to apply coats of Permatex Ultra Black RTV on BOTH sides of the pan gasket, as many of us did.

OPG DIY:

I linked some useful videos I benefitted from in post #324:

And if you used the CRP HWK0003 aluminum pan bolt kit with the GM 6L45, you will have some long 112 mm ones leftover, as I explained in post #327.

I used Victor Reinz (now Mahle) pan gasket. Elring should work fine too. Also change out the oil level sensor gasket (I used Ajusa).

The amount of RTV I squeezed out. You can see it was not a lot needed. I did wait the 24 hours cure time recommended. Anyway, refer to the post for more info.
