Which transmission kit is best? 335i e90
09 335i sport package. Does this car have the ZF or GM? And is there only one ZF model for this car?
Also, which kit would y’all go with? First kit is from ZF themselves. $250.00 usd https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...24152333907kt1 2nd kit $243.00 https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...-24152333907kt 3rd kit much cheaper but says compatible from liquid moly - I like there products but scares me using anything other than ZF.. but idk. Thoughts? https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...-24152333907kt All these kits use ZF pans just different fluids it comes down too.

Just worried if going with the liquid moly, it’ll mix some with the ZF that’s in there now. Since most likely won’t be getting everything out first time..?

The Liquimoly fluid should be just fine, if you're very concerned about the fluid you can just do another fluid change a few thousand miles later and then you'll have flushed like 90% of it out.

I think the Liqi-Moly kit is fine. The fluid is said made in Germany. It is likely OEM fluid. I use Febi 39096 (5L jug), it is out of stock right now. Made in Germany, better value than ZF Lifeguard, which I sometimes used.
I would save the $66 and use the Liqi-Moly and make use of FCP's lifetime replacement warranty. It should still work out better even when PayPal got rid of the return shipping refund policy. https://www.autohausaz.com/pn/FB-219517090 |

I think you’re probably right that I would be ok using the liquid moly, and if I did go that route I would change the fluid again in 1,000 miles but I’m just so scared to have any issues that I just ponied up and went with the ZF kit and bought the mechtronic sleeve as well I’m not sure if it’s leaking but preventative. Their is a transmission leak not sure where it’s coming from, prob pan gasket.. who knows. Kit is on its way. I’ll report back here with updates or any issues I occur. Thanks always. |

If it's transmission fluid leaking around the rear-right corner of the transmission, then it is likely the mechatronic sleeve (or the cylindrical transmission case sleeve). That is the large one with 3 rubber seals (2 o-rings and 1 square-cut) on the upper left of this picture. CTSC is an authorized ZF distributor.
https://www.thectsc.com/products/sea...21-243-43.html The old sleeves with the orange colored seals will leak. The new sleeves have black seals. See explanation here: https://www.thectsc.com/genuine-zf What you can do is first do a drain and refill. It will take about 4 quarts, taking account of some spillage. That way you can practice filling it while the transmission is around 100F. (I just do it when it is completely cold, which means I will have a little more fluid in there but not much). This way when you drop the pan on the 2nd time to change out the seals the new filter will see less dirty fluid. Then on the 3rd time you just do another drain and refill. That should change out about 90%+ of the old fluid. Here is an official ZF filter pan change video that I found useful: The forum has DIYs on the seal replacement. But here is an instruction sheet from CTSC that I also referred to. https://www.thectsc.com/images/pdf/t...eplacement.pdf |

The old case sleeve with the orange seals could not withstand the ZF ATF. They turned mushy and leaked.
My old style seals: The new style seal I installed from CTSC. It was a tight fit, so I used some Vaseline and pressed firmly.. |

That’s the sleeve I went ahead and ordered. Hope it’s not too much of a pita to change out. I ordered it separately instead of with the rest of the “rubber type” sleeves/seals because I didn’t want to drop the mechatronics unit itself since I’m not having any issues as of right now just a slight leak. |
