E90 Running Rough After Valve Gasket Change

Hello,

I just changed my valve cover gasket in my 06 325xi because it was leaking oil. I put in new plugs and coils too. I have put it back together and now it runs rough. It gives engine error codes 351 and 354 for Ignition Coil A & D Primary/Secondary Circuit.

I tried swapping out the coils and I still get the same error code and rough start.

I have also gone through the steps of recalibrating the valvetronic motor so I don't think this is the cause.

Should I send my injectors to RC engineering for a cleaning? Car has over 170k and is 16 years old.

What do you think my next step should be?

Thank you!

If you have coil codes right after then I would check the connection to the coils. I had a similar problem and the connector to a coil was not fully seated, even when the clip clicked. Try helping the connector fully seat as you lock down the clip.

Another might be the gasket got pinched and you had vacuum leaks.

If you don't have BMW diagnostics it would be a good idea to get
some.

Bimmergeeks standard tools download and K/D can cable
and Ista D recommended.

Agreed. Double check the coils are seated and clipped in properly. I had similar issues after I replaced my coils. They clicked in, but weren't plugged into coils.

Agree on checking the coils are seated/wired in properly. Based on my '06, BMW appeared to have different coils for the '06s and is now requiring an adapter to plug in the wiring harness to them. Not too sure what coils you bought and if those adapters were necessary during install.

This was the issue. Thank you!

The new coils I purchased had the key for the connector in the wrong spot. I cut it out before, but not enough to properly seat onto the connection. I cut off all the remaining key and smoothed it out and it clicked in all the way.

Car is running smooth as ever!

Thank you again to everyone who commented!
