Rust prevention. E90 that has yet to see salt.

Looking for guidance. This spring bought a 2011 e90 328. Is is from the south and has never been exposed to salt.

I live in NH and plan to keep it for 6-7 years. By then it will likely have 160-170k miles.

The vast majority of e90s I see locally look fine. So in theory 7 years of winter exposure without any extra protection my car should survive.

That being said I just finished up an oil pan gasket change. While doing that I replaced the transmission mounts. So some of the under pans were removed. It appears that there is already some type of coating on the unibody.

Anyone here go through the process of removing all the under pans and having it sprayed with fluid film or nhoil coating?

Thanks.

yes I did, my e91 is a winterbeater, and we have salt and calcium here, like a lot, no gravel nor sand.

Its a 08' high mileage. The body looks fine, few rust bubbles , but the frame and suspension arms damn they are rusty. The mechanic had hard time to deal with the alignment.

I did a grease based rust proofing in a reputable shop. Its NOT old engine oil, it's a grease developed for rust protection. They drill holes here and there to get to the closed spots.

Took about 1h, then they washed the car. 130$ cad. Good for 3 years.

Don't do anything.

The suspension bits and large structural nuts and bolts will rust but there isn't much you can do to protect them. The rear subframe will rust as well.

The unibody doesn't need any extra protection.
