Is this normal?

Hi all,

This morning as I was about to drive my car I noticed that the grille on my m340i had wrinkles in the coating. Is this normal? The car was a new purchase back in July 2022.

Just want to confirm you state it was purchased NEW back in July 2022? To me, it looks like a wrap that is having heat damage. I also have the OEM Shadowline Grill and do not have that issue. It could also be a defective part.

Correct the car was new off the assembly line.

Did someone walk by with a heat gun?

I doubt BMW will cover this, but I would suggest going to the dealer and claiming defective.

Yeah it really looks like someone put a heat gun to it and pressed their fingers into it or its chemically melting. I would just go in and complain

Absolutely not normal. However, it doesn't look like it happened by iteslf, particularly in the last pic.

Or did you park near some fancy designed reflective building?

May have been someone parked in stall in front of you with exhaust pointed at grill? Diesel truck owners love to regen on other people's cars...

Not only is the black paint damaged but the plastic is warped as well which leads me to believe it was damaged by localized heat. From what, who knows, maybe a heatgun vandal. It’s good that your dealer is willing to replace it because it was for sure not a manufacturer defect.
