I owned a F87 M2 LCI and loved everything about the car except:

1. Inability to turn off auto rev match unless traction control is off
2. the rubbery shifter feeling

Any word on if either of these are addresses in the G87 gen?

I am hoping BMW will learn from what Toyota did to their Gearbox with the new Supra. If not, does anyone know if it’s possible to make it less rubbery Wi-Fi aftermarket IE short shifter? Personally I would love a gated manual..

idk about point 2 but point 1 has been confirmed fixed. it is now a separate toggle within your m setup

The transmission for the F87 M2, G8x M2/3/4 and Supra V are all the same fundamental ZF GS6 transmissions with similar shafts and clusters. Any shift feel difference would be more due to the isolation and bushing of the gear lever.

I am most likely putting an order in Monday for a new M2 with a manual gearbox. I am a bit concerned about the color schemes. The paint choices are not idea for this one. I also kind of enjoy the front of the M240i a bit more. Still, with the newer engine and 6MT gearbox this will be a desired car no doubt. I am not sure which color is best of the 5 and really wish I could do an individual color instead.

I drove both the M2 F87 manual and the M3 G80 (and owned the 1M), and just sat in the Supra GR at the dealership.
Although all three have the same gearbox (ZF), the feel of the lever is very different.
The Bmw shifts are rubbish (although the one in the G80 is slightly better than the one in the F87, which in turn is slightly better than the 1M), far from the feel of the Supra.
Being the exact same gearbox, the reason should be what aerobod said, coming from an F87 you will have a slight improvement on the G87, but please don't try the Supra or you will be very disappointed with your Bmw
Anyway, the main issue I found on the manual G80 is the tall gear ratios that just doesn't match the power band of the S58, especially in the lower gears.

Manual on the G80 is bit better then F87. I plan to run SSK for the G87. But if they use F87CS as a starting point for G87, it maybe better then G80. Someone else can comment on manual for F87CS vs G80 vs F87.

On my F87 I changed the rear shifter bushing to the poly one from Turner. It was enough to make shifts much more positive. However it doesn’t look to fit G8X vehicles.

BMW loves their rubbery manuals and they have since the dawn of time. It was like that in my old e36 and I even drove a 2002ti with the same rubbery feel (although idk if that was because everything had perished over time).

I’m hoping they made it less rubbery but I just can’t see how they would ever make it feel like a Porsche manual or even a civic type r shifter. I’m expecting it to feel less rubbery but still rubbery…

I've got a Rogue SSK on my e36 M3, and it's fantastic. I've driven an e46 M3 with an Auto Solutions SSK and it's even more direct.

Interesting observation about the F87 .... the OG is less rubbery than the Competition. Remember, it has a different engine (N55 v S55), and according to my BMW technician friends, some small changes had to be made to mounting angle, which led to the more rubbery feel. I have an OG, but have driven several Comps, and they all have that feel. The G80 6MT I drove felt the same way -- a bit rubbery -- so I'm happy to see Auto Solutions working on a fix!

I'm just happy that we will have an opportunity to get a manual at all, since most manufacturers have eliminated them!

This is one of the biggest things I'm worried about with trading my 2022 Cayman for an M2. The shifter in the P car is like a bolt action rifle and the clutch feels so heavy and with so much feedback on the bite point. I did upgrade to the GT4 shifter, but even the stock one my cayman came with felt amazing. Hopefully the BMW one in the G87 has a good feel.

I'm in the same boat coming from a GT4. Never drove a manual BMW so I'm worried it will be a disappointment.

For those that are coming from newer gen Porsche, SSK is must for your ppl IMO. Without it you will always be craving the Porsche box. With SSK it will be 75-85% of P car in terms of feel and engagement.

Is the extra noise intrusive ?

I had driven a G82 (M4) manual while the transmission was improved than the F80 the clutch felt horrible, very very light and engagement point is way up , that's why gave up my G82 allocation only because of the clutch

Hope the G87 is not like that

The manual transmission in the LCI 135, 1M, M235, G80 M3, F87 M2 were all the same. My 1M's shifter has always felt fantastic—-even after getting in from driving a Porsche.

The difference between these cars is probably more in the clutch engagement, seeing as the clutch/flywheel is different across these. Not sure about the F80/F87 and if they share a clutch but I know for example my Frankenstein 1M clutch/flywheel was from the E92 335is and it always felt great too me. Slightly heavy but not much.

All the BMW manuals I have tried, didn't have clearly defined gates and required a little too much effort move for my liking. Clutch pedals also felt a bit heavy with high engagement points. Obviously not a deal breaker and just my personal preference.

I only experienced BMW MTs in my E46 M3, my E91 and E90. I loved them a lot. My E90 335i MT still puts a smile on my face even stock performance-wise every time I drive it. Anyone experienced any of those and the newer platforms care to share how they feel compared to one another?
