Yeah, can't really agree with second row. The only negative there is about the car, for me, is that I could fit in the back seat of my '19 230i (mainly head clearance). I can't in this one.

I've seen in review videos that the back seat space is about the same as the current 4 series coupe.

It is less.
The 4 series coupe is not noted to have a generous rear seating by any means, and it has 2.3 inches more rear legroom than the M240x.
M240x=32.2 inches rear legroom, BMW M430 = 34.5 inches.
They both are 2 door coupes and one does not generally expect much for legroom coupe rear seatings.

Only thing light is my wallet after buying it. But, it's the fastest car I've owned, and not sure yet if I'd put it ahead of the S2000 in driving enjoyment, but its up there at a close 2nd.

I guess it depends upon frame of reference, it's light compared to a Hummer, but not necessarily light in the field of 2 door sport coupes.
Light feeling...yes, until you really push it, then the weight shows up.

Roomy rear seats, well i will concede that it could be considered roomy in the context of 2 door sport coupes as some have NO rear seat.

The weight is the same as Mercedes SLK. And one of those letters stands for "leicht" so maybe thats how they calculated that is not that heavy after all.
But seriously, I think they are on the top of the scale wherethe car is still great and the driving experience is not destroyed by the weight. Add 200kg more (like M4) and it would be tragedy.

Maybe there were just referring to the 230? As in, there's a choice in the lineup of a lightweight coupe...they sure where not talking about the M240 xDrive. Of course...this is all in 2023 context.

Actually the MotorTrend reviewer got it right. As poster Zaxer (post 13 above) nicely captured. Problem is i suspect the creator of the bullet statements that precluded the actual written article messed things up by the simplification statement of "return of the light BMW coupe".
That is misleading and could be considered incorrect, as BMW coupes in the past have been significantly lighter ie
1995 318 coupe 2930 lbs
2005 3 series coupe 3220 lbs
2010 3 series coupe 3350 lbs

So a "Return" of a "light" BMW coupe statement could be considered just a wee bit misleading. The text of the review got it totally right as within the context of the current BMW crop it is the "lightest".

In terms of available 2 door "light" coupes, well Mazda mx5 at 2720 lbs, Toyota GR86 is at 2811 lbs, thats like a half a ton lighter. Those are light sporty coupes.

The MX5 and 86 twins are light, for sure, but they are not in the same galaxy performance wise.

You're talking 5.7-6.4s 0-60's and 14-14.5s 1/4 miles compared to a nearly sub 4s 0-60 and 12s 1/4 mile. The extra weight is put to good use for the most part (unless you're a hardcore track-rat).

Trust me I love a light, great handling car (e.g. my RSX-S with 50K miles on it). That was fun in my earlier years, now it's time for something in another league like the M240i. Unfortunately it has almost no competition in the coupe w/ backseat segment.

240xi is lighter than my former G80 M3. The only thing I miss with this upgrade is the auto close trunk lid on the M3. Never used the backseat anyway.

As someone with a decent amount of seat time in AP1 s2000s I'm curious what you like so much about the m240i that has it so close in ranking?

It comes down to just the power combined with AWD, it's so damn fast when you lay into it. That, and the comfort, build quality & electronics, it's a nice place to be. Plus AWD for the winter is awesome, versus swapping on Blizzaks in the winter on the S2k was a PITA.

In my 7 years in an AP1 S2000, I only daily drove it and it didn't see the track so I am not saying they are on the same level in driving dynamics. This is strictly from a daily driving fun perspective.

For instance a Nissan GTR is super heavy .. 3985lbs. It kills some exotics and super cars 1000lbs lighter. Balanced car. Great torque power delivery.
