Are ALL G42 2 Series cars built in Mexico?

From my understanding, all G42 2 series cars are built in Mexico (San Luis Potosi). I ordered a 2023 M240i xDrive which is currently in transit and my BMW Client Advisor insists that my car isn't built in Mexico and it's coming from Europe. I pressed the matter explaining the first 3 digits in VIN (3MW) means it from Mexico and he says the info I read on the internet is most likely incorrect and says my car is for sure built in Munich. Whats going on here??

I'd be seriously looking for somewhere else to get any future after sales support!

Your client advisor is an idiot. They’re all built in Mexico. The old model (F22) was built in Germany - but in Leipzig, not Munich.

My CA also told me that ... He was surprised when I told him they were made in Mexico and had to check to believe me...But that was in November 2021 before he had sold one !!

I simply refuse to use the euphemism "CA" or client advisor for a "car salesperson"....It's a glorified term to to make you think you are getting some special service. I suspect it may be a BMW origination as applied to automobile marketing/selling. Face it folks, its just a car salesperson....some are better informed than others.

I also had the experience of my CS (Car Salesperson) believing they were made in Europe. I have learned long time ago to treat info from a car salesperson as unreliable unless verified.

When i deal with a dealership that handles multiple makes/brands i do not expect a salesperson to be fully knowledgeable about each and every model of each brand they carry. On the other hand, when i am working with a single brand dealership (like my local BMW) i do expect them to be fully knowledgeable about their models. Often that is not the case.

Who needs

I see a future with no need sales person. They don’t sell you anything they show you cars if they have any. You can do all shopping you need on the interweb and even place your order. Most people on this board know more about this car than the client advisor I am positive.

My salesperson couldn't tell me basics about the car. I only bought it from her because the car sold itself to me.

Once ordered she didn't even know the arrival date. I had to tell her when the ship arrived in port and she said I was wrong and it was arriving a week later. I sent her a screenshot of the ship docked in port as proof.: 🤷🏻*♂️

You are 100% correct. Not only that, but BMW recently announced they are doing just this in the next few years, but only in European markets.. It may take more time in the US due to powerful franchise dealer lobbies.

All 2 series coupes will be made in Mexico. Beautiful new factory. Including M2. It's perfectly geographically in between Asian, European, and US/Canadian markets. Smart move for BMW. Don't sweat it - my '22 Thundernight M240i is an excellent build.

Make a wager with them - "$500 off the cost of the car says they're all made in Mexico".

Easiest rebate ever.

The B58 engines and ZF tranny's are built in Europe and shipped to Mexico I believe. There is a youtube video of the BMW plant in Mexico that assembles our cars. I found it interesting. I think the 3 series, 2 series and the new M2 are assembled there.....could be wrong of course!

Direct sales will be a two edge sword.
As BMW website will be the only point for buy the car there will be no discounts from the dealer (neither markup) and probably no discount at all.

I bought my M240i without visit a dealer, I made my configuration online, sent to almost all dealers (from different groups) in my country, and wait a few days to have the quotes in my inbox or a phone call. Then I order it by distance, discount and service experience and sign a contract with the "winner". The dealer is about 450km from my home, but a 70€ train/plane ticket vs more than a 6% extra discount is a no brainer.

I agree, but there's a cost to the haggling you need to do. I'd rather just know I'm paying the flat rate that everyone else is paying and not try to chase a "deal". I ordered mine in Nov last year and picked it up in a city 350 miles away (where my mom conveniently lives). I got a bit under MSRP and 1% finance rate. I question whether or not it was worth haggling.

When I was waiting on my car to be delivered I used Google Maps in satellite view to follow the train track from the factory to the eastern port of Mexico. At some point it became convoluted with another track and wasn't sure which one I should take and gave up. It was interesting to see how many hillsides the train went through via tunnels.

For what it's worth, all BMW motorcycles are also made in Mexico.

Huh???
I don't think ANY BMW motorcycles are made in Mexico.

Berlin BMW plant continues to be the worlds largest motorcycle manufacturing facility. It has evolved to also manufacture CKD kits (Completely Knocked Down), with individual motorcycle components that then are assembled at the international sites. BMW international lists the following plants of assembly or manufacture: Thailand, China, Brazil, and India. Some of these are assembly only and others are assembly and manufacture (China and India). No mention of any Mexico plant at the BMW International web site that addresses International Production. There is mention of a Mexico BMW motorcycle plant at Wiki, but BMW seems to be unaware of its existence....often Wiki input by individuals is not the most accurate.
I may be wrong but i cannot find any reference by BMW to any BMW branded motorcycle manufacturing facility in Mexico.
no biggie but i had to at least correct the misinformation that ALL BMW motorcycles are made in Mexico.

Well, now I have no idea? Back when I was reading about the Mexico factory I read the comment about the motorcycles being made in Mexico as well. Maybe it's only a certain model or engine type: R or K?
