eSim
I didnt see any posts about it but is anyone getting the eSim? Is it worth it? I have an iPhone so I mostly would be using Waze or Apple Maps to travel unless the built in maps is really that good.

Not really needed other than for devices that do not have cellular connectivity, Wi-Fi devices.

CarPlay just casts your phones interface (limited to supported apps) to the cars screen. The rest of the functionality is the same as when using your phone, apps on your phone will continue to use the phones wireless carrier.

Why would I pay for cell service in my car when I already have cell service in my pocket?
If passengers need a mobile hotspot for some reason my phone does that too. 5G is sweet but again, if I want that I'll get it through my phone, not my car. Keep in mind you will have to pay a carrier monthly to use it, the option price is only for the hardware. Last edited by deladude; 12-01-2022 at 01:06 PM.. Reason: missing a word |

Completely redundant option and worthless IMHO. The ONLY use case for it that I can imagine is if you were transporting rug rags in the back and needed a hotspot for their iPads or something - but then again you can simply do that from your phone if needed. And nobody is taking kids on long trips in this car anyways.

I know it definitely doesn't work for Verizon. I don't understand why they wouldn't work on it as they have data plans for iPads and Apple Watches. Like I can use full data and take calls on my watch and it's only $5-10 a month extra

I believe also the the most useful situation when an esim option will be needed could be in cases when you can play youtube videos, amazon prime video, netflix , etc to watch directly on the infotainment screen while parked ? but I believe this option is only available on idrive 8 on certain models only like the IX?

P.S: what about "netflix and chill" during a date night with your gf or wife in a nice parking spot with nice view in your M2 ? |

If I didn't want the rear seat, I would probably get something else.

This car fits what I want as it's a drivers car with some good tech. It also has a large aftermarket and I enjoy modding cars. With an ecu time and ethanol these will run low 10s easily. A few more and 9s. For the money I'd be able to get a used 911 but way older. |

The only real benefit to the esim is if you leave you forget your cell phone the internal esim can make phone calls. Otherwise the cell phone you have with you can do everything an esim can do. The esim is much more advantageous in a car like an X5 or X7 that always has passengers with tablets. It would be a no-brainer there. There is also a huge benefit for the new 7 series with rear theater. The fire TV in the back seat always has a connection with the esim. But back to the point, there isn't much reason to get this esim.

Most of what everyone says doesn't make sense. I pay $5 for data on my Apple Watch and $10-20 for a data only device. Why post that plus a service fee unless you have T-Mobile. If I had T-Mobile I'd consider it

I'm definitely getting it, my wife works on her laptop a lot while I am driving and my daughter does schoolwork on her laptop while we are on the road, so not having to hotspot from my phone will be nice.
