Base Price Changed on Order?

Curious to get some thoughts on my order situation, maybe someone dealt with this last year...

I placed my order in November 2022 and the base price was $49,900. However, my allocation didn't come through until this week and I opted to add a couple changes to my order (actually requested a paint change last month and never received an updated order form). When the new order form was sent over, it had the new base price of $50,900.

Does this make sense? My thinking was that since my original order was agreed upon and placed at the previous base, that should still be honored.

Thoughts? It's only $1k out of a $60k car so I'm not going to make a huge stink but it left me a little annoyed.

Price goes up for production beginning in January. You were in the order bank until allocations were released for February production, so there's nothing to honor.

Ok, assume I had not made any changes to my order. I have a signed order form with the dealership for a specific price. Would they have just surprised my on delivery with an extra $1k owed?

What's the point of having an order form signed by myself and the dealer if they can just change the price?

Worth asking. Could be a simple mistake. I just took delivery of mine this week. Ordered back in September. They did not hit me with the updated +1000 MSRP, but mine was produced before new year.

Never hurts to ask 😄

I've had terrible experiences with dealerships in the past so I'm just being very cautious. Never ordered a car before either so I just want to make sure I'm not being taken advantage of.

Truthfuly I've been a tiny bit annoyed already with the CA. Really nice guy when I talk to him but not very communicative. When I called him on Wednesday, apparently my allocation had already come through and was ordered but he forgot to tell me...

Talk to your dealer. I heard about the price increase. Put in my order in November and asked about it. They said they will honor my original quote. Some dealers may push back. Good luck.

This is why you should agree on an out the door price and have it documented. My order got moved from MY22 to 23 when they increased the base price and made the $200 interior lights mandatory, but I paid the same out the door price regardless of the new msrp.

You can ask, but you did not have a production number when you placed the order. I think the price increase was announced in December and you still didn't have a production number. If you had a production number prior to January 1 and the order was delayed, maybe you'd have some protection.

Effectively that's what I pretty much have but the difference would be that I opted to make changes to the order.

Anyway, they offered to cover $500 of the base increase so, fair enough.

Lesson learned for the future!
