BimmerCode Data Update

Today I opened BimmerCode to look through the Demo Mode and it asked if I wanted to download the Data Update. I did, which was 60 MB, but haven't connected it to the car.

Anyone know if the update is anything significant for our cars?

These data updates happen from time to time but there are never any release notes.

If you're referring to your 2022 M240i (iD7), it's very much supported, even if it's not supported.

For those with ID7, would you care to be less cryptic?

Thanks for the tip for those who don't know! I have mine coded using the g20 setting, but it would be nice to have a fully built out g42 support.

You can code limited settings by setting the car to the g20 model. For me fortunately I was able to code everything I wanted (primarily starting the car in sport ind).

To expand on what burkhacs said you can still code your G42 iD7, and I wouldn't say it's "limited". You can make a ton of changes, even audio sound profiles. And you do not have to stay in the G20 section, you can move around to any of the cars (M3, M4, M8, etc) and see what they have to offer. Just do not go into Expert Mode unless you know what you're doing.

Supposedly there will be G42 support in the future, but I really don't know if it will add a whole lot to the experience?

So far it has been 100% safe and reliable. Just make sure you have your phone set properly during the flash process so you're not getting texts/calls/notifications, as that may screw up the flash.

So it's been almost 2 years since the release of the G42. SG Software/Bimmercode has been saying that the dedicated G42 app module is possibly in the works.

At this point in time, is it safe to say that they are not really interested in making one for the G42?

What is the usual timeframe for other body series?

BimmerCode has had full support for the G42 ID7 on Android for around 6 months. I cant speak for iOS. I have also done very limited coding with the same on my wife's 2023 ID8 330i, of course using the G20 / 3 series option.

Yes, I've seen videos of the "workarounds". But I want a dedicated option for the G42.

And yes to iOS and iD8 compatibility as well.

See the screenshot above from my phone.. I connect to the ODB adapter and choose 2 Series Coupe. G42 support is NOT a workaround in ID7 on Android.

I have:
  • disabled ASD
  • disabled startup, camera, seatbelt warnings
  • disabled volume popup
  • enabled start in Sport Individual
  • enabled M startup logo
  • enabled B&W audio
  • enabled A/C on recirc.
  • enabled Sporty Exhaust (Expert mode)
  • enabled 5x one-touch turn signals
  • set mirror tilt to 60%
  • light / rain sensor to very sensitive
Zero issues.

I paid for it years ago. I wonder what the economics are for them. Maybe they should charge a little more for each additional VIN.

I can confirm that there’s iOS support for iDrive7 2 series coupe. I coded my car with it just a few days ago. 200mph speedo, start in sport mode, B&W sound profile, driver/passenger seatbelt chime off, video mode while driving, etc.

I have iOS BimmerCode & can’t see the G42 listed anywhere?

Oh I follow yah. I'd love those, but the fact is I'm in the Apple ecosystem and my car is iD8.

I'll take a photo next time. I don't think it says G42, but a 2-series coupe as opposed to only showing a 2-series grand coupe.

I have an iphone and ID8. All the listed changes are doable using G20 option in bimmercode. I've had the same options ticked on my car for 4 months with no issues.

Nice! I appreciate the confirmation.

I might just bite the bullet and purchase the BimmerCode app now. I already have a compatible OBDII scanner.

Can you or another member suggest a good YouTube tutorial, specifically for iD8, if possible?

I’ve used BimmerCode on my M2 but there were some features that I needed to hire some dude out of country to remote in and make some changes. That was maybe 2 years ago and it’s been great and without a hitch.

Does anyone know if such a service is available for ID8 cars? I have a G42 w/ ID8 on order and would like to make some of these coding changes.

I’ll rephrase my previous statement: according to all the responses from the BimmerCode customer support team to the question “does BimmerCode support iDrive 8”, the answer has consistently been “no, not yet”
