Difference in ECU/DME early 2012 F30 vs later

Does anyone know what is the difference in DME produced before 11/2012 and afterwards in F30?

I noticed the difference when researching MPPK for the car, there are apparently 3 different kits depending on your car

Retrofit kit number
11 12 2 353 337 BMW M Performance Power Kit 250KW (built after 07/2013 with EU6)
11 12 2 334 336 BMW M Performance Power Kit with FSC (built after 11/2012)
11 12 2 294 611 BMW M Performance Power Kit (built before 11/2012) < ---
Installation time
The installation time for cars with MEVD 172S/G is around 0.25 hours and for cars with MEVD 1726
around 1.75 hours. These times may vary depending on the condition of the car and the equipment in it.
The installation time shown does not include any time spent on programming/coding.

But apparently kit 11122294611 actually comes with an entirely new DME? (Source: http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/11122294611 , note last item)

Whereas other kits just come with the new air intake and a FSC code to upgrade.

I'm wondering if anyone knows what necessitates a full DME replacement on early F30 models versus a simple FSC code to unlock?

For those who will say "don't get MPPK", I will clarify I am not seriously considering it as an option anymore (too expensive for too little gains, no more warranty anyways).

HOWEVER, I am very curious to know what the difference in DME is, and how this could affect my car / any future modifications going forward.

Thank you for your time!

Priot to 2012 it was an e series car.. they had different intake and fueling setups.. then the f series car got its own, then they changed the turbo setups and injector models etc but essentially the same ish..

The short answer is it doesn't matter, just go bm3 or mhd assuming you're in the correct forum and have an f series.

I'm comparing F series cars to other F series cars. You must not understand the question if you are bringing up E series cars.

Ok I get what you're saying now, thank you!

So if you tuned a pre 11/2012 F30 and a post 11/2012 F30 the same, they would drive the same?

The f30 n55s were from 2012 (first year of the f30) to 2015. The first few years of the n55 f30 was a pwg turbo setup and the 2nd half of the f30s were ewg turbo setups. Those two differences were what made them different. Yes they are are different and drive different because of those differences and yes they make different power and etc when tuned and even before being tuned etc. You can Google the differences but essentially the ewg cars make more power, have a more usable power band and in general are easier to tune.

The earlier n55s like I said were e series cars and completely different cars, there were no prior to 2012 f30s.. they didn't exist.
