Steering Wheel Off Center

Do you have dealer try to fix or live with? I am OCD. I know dealer will do some kind of damage to steering wheel trying to move it. Lol! It’s slightly to the left.

Sorry, but can you re-word your question? I can’t make any sense of what you are asking

If your steering wheel is off center you will need a wheel alignment which adjusts the tie rods. The steering wheel has no adjustment.

The steering wheel is slightly off center to the left when driving down a straight road. That’s the best I can write it.

Then it sounds like the alignment needs looking at by a garage

Simple alignment. Maybe add a little negative camber while you’re at it.

Hey Bandit, I had the same issue on my new M240. The dealer had to made an alignment twice in order to get it center. Like somebody mentioned, they do not remove the steering wheel in order to fix it. And I don't blame you, we are paying for a BMW, we can expect and ask for top quality.

I’ve never removed a steering wheel but in case its not tire alignment/camber, tire pressure, etc. I did watch a video the other day of a guy replacing the steering wheel paddles and mentioned making sure the steering wheel was aligned properly when tightening back up so just throwing out an alternative if its not the other things

You cannot misalign a steering wheel since it’s splined and keyed. OP’s issue will be solved by an alignment.

That can be normal. The camber/crown of the road wants to cause the car to steer a bit to the right. To compensate you have to steer a bit to the left.

You need to experience the car on a variety of roads.

If the steering wheel is indeed off center the tech will use a level that rests on the spokes of the steering wheel. The wheel centered/level this can have the front wheels turned a bit. The tech can adjust the tie rods to bring the front wheels into proper alignment.

Bear in mind though you will be faced with on some roads having to counter steer to deal with the crown/camber of the road. And on multi-lane roads while the right most lane may require you steer to the left a bit on the other lane you may have to steer to the right a bit.

I haven’t brought it into the dealer to have it fixed. Right now I have just been living with it.

I’m going for my break in service tomorrow and telling them to fix it.

Just an update the steering wheel was off center and they had to do an alignment. Can’t believe the factory missed this basic driving component, but the service advisor said it happens sometimes in transport.
It’s all fixed now and they did not charge me.
I’d suggest getting this done so you don’t wear your tires wrong.

Can you confirm, your steering wheel was off centre, or your wheels were(

Steering wheel off center due to toe in and camber. Alignment fixed the issue.

Yeah so you’re wheels are off centre right? You’re aligning the wheels not the steering wheel?
Apoligies if I’m being dumb. Have a new car arriving soon and will keep an eye out for this

Correct it’s the axle / camber and wheel adjustments in an alignment service. The steering wheel doesn’t get aligned or touched.
I’ve heard several G87 owners complain of this as well so it is very annoying for the factory to screw this up. I thought I was being OCD until BMW service verified this and told me I was the 5th one they have seen with this issue. I felt it most on the highway I was constantly moving the steering wheel to the left to stay straight.
