*Mile Hi Club*

Hey guys/gals, I’m finally ready to get relevant to the forums with my 130,000 mile sapphire black 2013 f30 sport. I received a drivetrain error message on my display with power cut on the fwy. We had the car towed to vtmotorwerks in Pleasanton, CA. They reported back that the valvetronics system needs servicing. I am a DIY guy, but prefer a professional touching the motor.

Coming from hi maintenance ///M cars, my gf and I were hoping you could provide insight on other common repairs recommended to oil the N55 (ex. timing chain, rods, etc.). We have owned the car young @ 57,000 and has been a great car without crazy issues. It is a DD that she takes to school so I’d like to prevent any rescue missions. My question is, any hi mileage owners that can recommend anything major while the car is in pieces? We would like to keep the car long term as it is a milestone car entering our 30s and has kept us safe. 2nd owner.

2013 335i Sport
130,000 Miles

Maintenance done:
Valve cover
Oil Filter Housing Gasket
Charge pipe
Coolant hoses
Paint correction+ceramic
Toyo Tires Proxes Sport

be prepared to do the OFGH and Coolant hose a second time and I switched out the water pump at 100,000 miles just to be safe. I serviced my tranny (drain and fill) at 138,000 miles for the first time and there was no slippage or noises of any kind before or after so get that done ASAP, since I waited so long (you did as well) I plan on doing another drain and fill very soon. currently at 144,000 and going strong

what is OFGH? I am currently at 166,000 LOL. I need do water pump then. I did the tranny drain and fill, i also changed the pan while i was at it. What else do you recommend? I am running a stage 2 BM3 tune bolt ons.

To OP: I also changed out the oil filter housing gasket, it tends to start leaking.

Pretty sure OFGH was a typo and he meant OFHG = oil filter housing gasket

Mine has 111k miles.
My PCV valve just went at 110k miles. Had to get a new valve cover
Camshaft sensor went
One coil went

90kish miles sparks we’re done by me,

Valve cover gaskets replaced

75k miles inlet cracked and charge pipe blew off

60k miles one plug went

I’m currently planning to have a ship do my OFHG as mines leaking pretty bad

And I had some serious electronic issues which I replaced battery fixed all that

SOS malfunction showed up, coded that out

Front passenger seat mat sensor bad; just bought a new seat off eBay

I got this 335i for 25k with 40k miles sport like edition. If I didn’t get it as cheap as I did about 6.5 years ago I would of sold it a while ago. But car market so expensive right now I’m just fixing and holding on

What year is your f30? I got my 2014 335i m-sport and m-performance power kit with 70k mi for $22k a year ago. Now has little over 90k mi - only issues was and ofhg leaking, reservoir coolant hose. Other than that no issues. Overall n55 has been reliable to me, it’s also FBO and waiting for pure500. I also have pwg n55 that has similar issues but also with failed hpfp and water pump around same miles (now has 120k mi)

yes sorry i meant OFHG it was a typo and it was also my second time replacing it, first time was at 60,000 miles which I replaced with the synthetic rubber gasket from Bavarian Auto but it cracked again at 135,000 miles and so did my coolant line (for a second time). I've been FBO and tuned for 80,000 miles now. Coolant line is a cheap part so I would keep an extra in your trunk otherwise you could be left stranded.

dont know which is the coolant line, by chance are you able to share the part number or show a picture of it from realoem.com or from your car?

here are the part numbers its also known as the coolant expansion tank hose:
17128570061, 17128507235

Its one of the easiest parts to fix on this car but just like the water pump there will be zero symptoms of this line cracking or breaking it literally just happens all of a sudden.

Mine is 2012. I bought it for 27k with 44k miles back in November 2017. Fully loaded sport line. It’s been a decent car. Prior toot bid I had a 2007 g35 sedan that I had from 60k miles too 138k and it was way more reliable. Never had any issues. I love bmw tho but my first bmw experience has been ehh.. but it’s taught me a lot about cars and a lot
I have learned from YouTube and doing on my own, which for future bmws will help me lol

thanks for all the feedback guys.

I just got the car back from my indy and the valvetronic servo motor went out along with the replacing the eccentric shaft. I am still hearing a slight tick upon idle so may dive into getting the timing chain and other internals checked out to bulletproof my n55 after putting some miles on. I want to do simple bolt ons because I do come from a vf engineering s/c'd e46m and read all about the instant power gains. About $5,000 into this motor to get it DD worthy so the itch for power is starting to kick in.

I have also replaced the pcv valve and coolant expansion tank line in the past I might also add.
