BMW of North America Announces 2023 Center of Excellence Award Winners, Recognizing the Best BMW Dealerships in the U.S.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – March 2, 2023… BMW of North America announced today its annual Center of Excellence (COE) award winners, recognizing 32 BMW dealers across the U.S. for having delivered exceptional results in sales, service, and customer experience. The Center of Excellence awards are the highest honor a BMW center can receive for overall customer satisfaction and operational performance.

“As the primary point of contact with customers, our dealers play a critical role in representing our brand and shaping the customer experience,” said Sebastian Mackensen, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “On behalf of our entire team, I’d like to congratulate this year’s winners and thank them for their tireless efforts, leadership, and commitment to excellence.”

All 349 BMW centers in the U.S. were measured on six different sales and aftersales Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) based on the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) Index. Winners outperformed their peers across these categories throughout 2022.

Do you guys put anything into the dealers that are listed as M Centers? Does that actually mean something or is it just something they pay BMW to be able to stay. I have two close to me that are both on that list, one has the M thing and the other doesn't.

From this list I bought and dealt with 3 dealers:
(1) Bobby Rahal - Good CS, Average pricing, medium collection size, recommended
(2) Sun Motor - Expensive
(3) Passport - large inventory (in case you cannot wait for an order), good pricing, best on used collection, their finance dept sucks

Hmm, none of the 3 dealers I buy from in VA made the cut! And nor did the dealer in MD where I recently bought my 45e. However, my former dealer, Passport BMW (...where I've bought about 8 BMWs) did make the list. Good for them...

Take that for what it's worth. In practice, they may have an edge on securing allocations, but I don't know what else may really distinguish them.

I'm 3rd on the list for Bobby Rahal near Pittsburgh for my M2. Hopefully they get an allocation soon.

Good to know about Sun...they have a vehicle I'm interested in, so we will see. 👍

I've mostly used Otto's BMW in West Ch, PA and they've been pretty good, but not on this list.

My local dealer made the list…their service department is good but sales not so much. Actually not sales, but their finance department is terrible IMO. My first experience with them was ok but my second one was pretty bad.

Wonder if the Excellence in COE refers to how valuable they are to the brand rather than to the clients? But then again, YMMV and your experience with your particular dealer may be the exception rather than the norm.

I haven't kept up every year with the list, but remember back in the day being surprised seeing certain CA dealers. Never can say I've had a fantastic experience at any of them.

I mean to be fair, this past year most dealers had limited inventory and were selling close to MSRP and it didn’t seem like anyone was offering much for discounts let alone negotiation.

This list might have been heavily influenced by whosever secured more allocations.

Was thinking the same thing. I've had good experiences when visiting Passport BMW for sales.

The only dealer in GA on there is United BMW Alpharetta- which tracks with my experience. The only competent dealer in the metro Atlanta area (have no experience with South Atlanta or Macon).

Nalley BMW in GA is the worst though. Please, if you’re in GA, don’t ever take your car there for service (IMHO). Parts is amazing there though. Next worse is Gwinett Place BMW (United BMW too, oddly enough).
