M2 vs Emira

Assuming you're not thrown by the 2-3 year wait for an Emira, anyone split between these two? If you decided one way or another, what pushed you that way? Man, I'm torn between the two..

It feels like apples and oranges to me.

I think the Emira is one of the most gorgeous cars around and is probably a hoot, but it's $30k more than an M2 and is almost certainly a second (or third) car while the M2 can be a daily in many parts of the country.

If a car like the Emira fit my lifestyle, I don't think I'd even be considering the M2. The internal debate would be "Emira or a little extra for a Cayman GTS 4.0?"

I've always thought anyone who can't compare apples to oranges is just bad at comparisons

But yeah, I get what you mean. I definitely think the M2 would make the better overall daily driver but I think I could sacrifice some of the "practicality." The Emira just seems so...special. I haven't decided if I would get rid of my current 4 series or keep it. I think it's probably only worth about $10k in trade-in value.

Aren't the GTS 4.0 even harder to come by and going for like $50k over sticker?

Haha. Okay, apple and oranges . . . they're both round, full of nutrients and absolutely delight my dog.

I guess my question is, if one can afford the Emira and has a second car in the garage, what's the case in favor of the M2? The Emira is absolutely more special, so why wouldn't you go for that???

M2 is faster and much more moddable with a vastly superior engine to Emira. I test drove an Evora GT which has the same powertrain and is both lighter and has more power than the Emira and was unimpressed (engine wise). Emira is beautiful but that V6 really lets it down. I wish they could have sourced another manual compatible powerplant for the 2nd new engine instead of the AMG.

Funny I just finished watching them and wondered the same thing, looked up on their website and saw the price tag…well probably just going to stick to M2 route until I have that budget sometime later.

M2 is ordered and will arrive this summer. The Emira is next and will be ordered after the M2 is in the garage. The M240i will be replaced by the Emira upon arrival.

Never really contemplated getting a Lotus as while they are great sports cars, the dealer network is very small and I predict repairs will be $$$

I am however, contemplating getting a first gen GT4 instead of the M2. Tough decision because I love the M2 and how it looks, the practicality and performance you get for the money. I really believe it will be the best BMW in the G series of cars.

completely different cars and classes.
And...
I tried to daily a Mclaren once....trust me, the Woking Crew swore it could do it!! It had, let's say, umm...traditional british car issues. Which meant it wasn't quite what you can expect from a BMW or Porsche. Lotus will probably do better there with the toyota parts, but its design is more akin to a high-end Cayman variant than a $65K sedan. I admit that I am on the list for one, but as a possible replacement for my GT3, which makes more sense.

I don't get why anyone would buy a Lotus. It will assuredly break, and the dealer network and available parts will be close to zero.

I love Lotus' too. Every one I've been in has been a hoot. But if you talk to any owner, it's like buying an Alfa Romeo or Maserati...just nonstop bullshit.

I just don't want a car that draws THAT much attention, to be honest. My cousin had 3 Elises, one he supercharged which was pretty awesome. He couldn't go anywhere in it casually. But he also loved the attention. I don't. Nice BMWs give the right amount of attention IMO.

I daily drove my 86 Turbo Esprit HCi. No issues. Did normal maintenance and upkeep. Zero issues. Loved it, rain, sun and fun. Over a year. Best decision I made with any car. Wake up taking the Lotus out to work. Leave office enjoy sitting, starting and driving the car around and eventually home.

I did very much the same with the 94 Esprit S4. Life is for living and fun cars for driving. As often as possible.

I’m not thinking about the M2 vs Emira. I’m debating a Cayman GTS or Boxster Spyder over the M2. But I agree with others here. Really not a comparison between those choices. The Spyder gets close to doubling the cost of the M2 how I’ve ticked the boxes. The GTS is 50% more than the M2. But there is no substitute 😉

The Emira is definitely a sweet looking ride. That being said, both engine choices are not that special IMO. Add to the fact that the new M2 (and quite possibly the F87 M2C) will be faster AND cheaper, it's pretty much a no brainer on what to purchase.

Sure, if I had $100K to throw around, I'd defintely consider one. That said, I'm cool with my F87 for now.

I love it, ordered one. $2500 down, refundable and wont have it for at least 18mos. If I don't want it, cant afford it or just love the m2 so much that I no longer care to have it I will cancel my order. I also think it will be likely I could flip it immediately for a profit

Can't wait for the M2 (hopefully early summer) but the Emira is in a diff league.

Seriously considered the Emira. I think the AMG powered version will be the quick one as its considerably lighter & more powerful plus readily tuned.

If they would have sourced an NA engine it would be an all-time classic. Missed opportunity IMO.

Agree with all that but it will be an automatic...pass!
