Ambient Lighting

Can someone please post a video of the ambient lighting in a 2023 model?

It’s the same as the 2022 but without the door bin lighting.

There aren’t much videos showing what the ambient looks like in the G42. My car is still not due for another two weeks, and I also really want to see what the lights look like. Some people were underwhelmed and some were pleased. I was looking for ambient lights that are very bright and illuminate the entire cabin. But I can’t tell if it does that due to lack of pictures online.

It is nearly impossible to accurately capture what it looks like irl with pics and videos posted online. I will say that pictures tend to make them look much more bright and vibrant than they look irl

It’s very hard to capture in pictures as mentioned above. This video on YT is prob the most accurate. I personally was disappointed with how it looked in person,so I did a custom ambient setup. Now I’m in love

Curious, what you going to do if you don’t like the lighting? Refuse it?

I've been driving my car for 6 months, and I couldn't care less about ambient lighting

The ambient lighting is... there. Nothing special. Similar to the ambient lighting in my long-gone 2011 Mustang. Honestly, I set to blue and couldn't care less beyond that.

Not quite as you get the strip across the passenger side dash, and depending if you spec the M illumination option you then get it in M colours.

But you are correct with the door bin removal colour.

Really disappointed the violet/purple was removed! Not really a fan of any of the other colors. Almost imperceptible when driving (with and without night driving).

Former MINI had much better lighting. In the end, didn't buy the 240 for the lighting, right?

It's true, they should have kept the door pocket light (why even bother removing it?). But the 23s do get that nice dash light and I'd trade my door pocket light for it in a heartbeat.

It’s quite underwhelming. Could be described as minimal. It is not bright, the highest settings feels like you have it turned halfway down. It needs more brightness and a few more LED. It doesn’t help that ID8 gets washed out pastel colors and not more inherently vibrant colors. My X3 has far superior ambient lights. Whoever was in charge of this one is not a fan of ambient lights lol. The M illumination is cool but again it’s so faint you can’t really tell they are illuminated unless it’s completely dark out.

Agree 💯. Underwhelming. I hardly notice it.

Hopefully they come to their senses with a future software update that allows a typical color palette like ID7. Who the hell wants these faded washed out colors. People want BLUE, they want RED, they want PURPLE, etc. I’m convinced the color selection is half the problem.

I bought the OEM door pocket lights for a 2022 and they don’t work when you plug them in to test them in existing sockets. Apparently the LED PCB have unique addresses or something and the body control module needs to reprogrammed/relearned or something to get other lights to work.

I have no issues with how bright the ambient lighting is. I don't want it to be that bright otherwise it would be distracting.

Yeah, I actually prefer the ambient lighting over the M illumination for that reason. It looks brighter to me and more pleasing during the day when the M illumination can hardly be seen and looks just painted on. Plus I like being able to switch up all of the colors whenever the mood strikes.

I can respect that but you can always turn it down where you like it… the rest of us cannot turn it up where we like it when it’s so weak at max setting

That’s a fair point as well. I can take them or leave them. Don’t get me wrong they are cool but as I sit here waiting for my car to arrive I have not thought about what the ambient lights would like like once. It’s easy enough to deck out your car like the 4th of July if you want to. With that being said in my 2020 M340 they are very weak even at the highest setting.

In sunny climates there is also an issue with the drivers dash display not getting bright enough.I live in south Florida and it would frequently get washed out in the sun to the point where it was not visible at all

I wonder if there is some variance in the brightness between cars. I honestly think mine is bright at night. I'll see if I can get a picture next time but you all want it brighter than this? This seems pretty bright to me.
