2017 440i MHD tuning advice

Hi everyone this is my first post here. I've been pretty obsessed with these cars and looking for one, I just so happened to find one that pretty much fit all my needs 2.5 hours away and went and picked it up this week. I purchased this car with no intention of leaving it stock. I purchased a catless downpipe and MHD super license with the wifi adapter before I even bought the car. Unfortunately when I went to tune the car I got the bench unlock dme message so at some point the previous owner probably got the car serviced and the software was updated. I talked to a guy at SSR Performance over the phone (they are about 2 hours away from me) and was told that depending on the software I have I will be able to tune with just a bench unlock or there's a possibility that I would have to have the DME taken to Finland as there's only one place unlocking those DME's. Does anyone have more knowledge about this and have any of you had to go through the process of sending your DME to Finland? I want to know the ballpark for pricing on that because I definitely plan to tune this car. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I should also mention that I entered my VIN on the BMW software update page and it says my software is up to date.

Can't help with your main enquiry, but the above is completely irrelevant. This is not the DME software meant there but user level iDrive software intended for self-updating (such as bluetooth, etc.). So just disregard the website. The DME is completely different story.

All F series DMEs are bench unlockable, there's none that has to be sent to the EU for unlock.

You just need to find a shop that does bench unlock.

Yes the Finland thing is bullshit that only applied to the very newest ecus not F series.

I had the same issue and drove 2 hours to Miami on a Saturday and the specialist unlocked it on the car in about 17 seconds.

I flashed stage one there and then and never looked back.

Enjoy mhd it's awesome!
