Hmmm now I somehow hope my car comes with the Pirellis so I have an excuse to get these right away. :P

I thought it was finally out too, but alas still not for a while. No biggie, I'm sure by the time everyone burns through their OE tires these will be out. Sucks if you end up with Pirelli or Conti OE tires and want to ditch them asap though.

I seriously got excited to only be let down at 5 mins and 36 secs. The guy in this video stated that this is not the replacement tire for the 4S. It will be something else and named differently too. |

Yeah, that was a bit weird. I don't care what they call it so long as it's better. The one really cool thing he mentioned (aside from performance) aesthetics wise was that it has a new deep black sidewall.

He also seened to state (make it clear?) that it would be an OE for select manufacturers and not for sale to the general marketplace. Now, how did Lexus and Land Rover get on the initial list and not BMW? If it does eventually becone a BMW OE tire and not available on the open market nor has the PS4S replacement been released, (assuming it comes in the sizes for the M2) I may overpay and buy tires from BMW. |

Even if they make an identical tire and call it the new PS4S, it would be a serious misstep by Michelin to create a perception that they restrict their best tire to OE only. If that's their plan, they should just call the new tire "New Coke 5 S."
They may launch it OE only, but I'd be shocked if they kept it that way any longer than they have to and suspect we'll see it on Tire Rack soon enough. |

My thoughts, just because the 4S is considered one of the best tires on the market and it continues to win accolades, does not mean that Michelin should sit on their laurels. Keep innovating in order to continue to be the king of the hill!
I have the 4S on three performance vehicles and while it is a mind blowingly good tire there is always room for improvement. I am confident there has been several advancements in tire technology since the development of the 4S. If the tire has been out for six years then it probably had two or three years of development prior to its launch. The 4S is becoming a bit long in the tooth. |

It may be on Tire Rack in the not so distant future however if it is specifically for limited vehicles, the sizes offered will most likely be limited (to the OE specs per each vehicle). Michelin will get around this by making a separate model for other OE cars and/or the general marketplace. |

Seems like people often get mixed up with Michelin tires (which Michelin doesn't make easy with their naming conventions) so here's a quick summary.
Addressing the title of this thread: Michelin did not release a spiritual successor to the PS4, they released an actual successor, aptly named the Pilot Sport 5 (PS5). This was announced back in 2022. As of right now, there is still no successor to the Pilot Sport 4S (PS4S). The PS4S is still their top-of-the-line widely available UHP summer tire (not counting cup or R compound tires). This just-released tire, the Pilot Sport S 5 (PSS5), is a new tire in the lineup, NOT a replacement for anything, designated for select OE applications. We can likely expect an announcement regarding the successor to the PS4S sometime this year, which will likely be constructed on many of the same advancements found in the PSS5 |
