Irrefutable pro manual argument

For those agonizing over the 6-speed stick or the ZF8HP for their G87, carjackers don't know how to drive stick

It is true, a large majority of carjackers cannot drive a manual transmission.

I am uncertain if providers in the U.S. discount for that. I know my provider of 30+ years does not.

Where I live and drive carjacking is not a problem.

But I have my cars serviced regularly. And I am concerned about a car valet getting my manual equipped car and getting into trouble.

This concern is not sufficient to force me to only own automatic equipped cars.

So I hopefully will soon own a M2 with a 6-speed and it will be garaged with my JCW with a 6-speed.

only in North America or in countries where mostly there are automatics
for example in Eastern Europe you will see only max 5% of cars on the streets are auto

You are aware that the G87 auto is standard equipment in Germany? The manual is optional at €500.

yes, maybe but it has nothing to do with the ability of thieves to drive the manual or not. Because they already know how to drive a manual, even if its auto then its the same for them as everyone can drive it.

FYI, it is being made a cost option in Germany because allegedly manual transmission sales are down there as well.

I can't speak to trends and you may be right that MT sales are declining, but the take rate in Europe is still 80%.

I think the WSJ article is probably somewhat out of date from a data perspective and also doesn’t break down the distribution across the different car classes. The majority of ICE cars in Europe are still manual transmission, but with sub 1.5 litre engines. The trend I have noticed over the past 5 years is that cars with 2 litre and larger engines are now generally automatics, but they only make up a minority of vehicle sales. This probably explains the default transmission for the M2 now being automatic for Germany and the UK.

My 911 is a manual so I was considering an auto for the M2, but I just love manuals too much. I haven’t ordered yet though.

Manual… given that this will be the last manual, full ICE M car to ever be produced it will be highly desirable in 15-20 years.

Might not be either if no one knows how to drive them in that time.

There are plenty of manual enthusiast like myself whom have taught their high school, college age children to drive a manual transmission. They are the next generation and will have money of their own by then or they will have inherited it.

Edit, better yet, theses kids just inherit the father/mother’s manual G87.

i have a manual 911. i sold my daily, a manual f80 for a dct m2c a few months ago.

short answer is if you like to manually shift yourself around town. stay far away from the zf8. i tried to like the zf8 in the supra but it was awful. so laggy on downshifts. i really wanted to like the supra. but the m2c dct box is worlds better. feels just as good as the exotic supercar brands (which still use dct for their sports cars and not a torque converter auto)

TBH, that is actually a pretty hilarious and effective deterrent, unfortunately in England, even the basic 17-year-old college girl can drive a manual, so we don't have the luxury
