ID8 Live Cockpit Display - Assisted Driving
The first day or two we had our 2 there was a display in the instrument cluster that showed a silhouette of the vehicle with images of other vehicles in proximity to our car when driving. For the life of me I haven't been able to locate that screen since...
I've attached an image from the G20 forum that shows what display I'm looking for. Where do I find that in ID8 for our G42? Our car has the Premium Pkg which includes Live Cockpit Pro. |

Deep diving on included features and options on the G42/M240i. Odd that you can add Advanced Parking assist but it doesn’t look like there is any Lane assist tech as standard or optional. (?)

As an important distinction, the G42 has "Lane Departure Warning," which "vibrates the steering wheel when the vehicle begins to move across a lane marking without the turn signals activated."
It does not have true "Steering and Lane Keeping Assist," which is part of BMW's "Active Driving Assistant Pro" package available on other model lines. This is the system that actively works to keep you centered in your lane and will steer the car around curves and such. All the G42 does is warn and nudge you back into the lane once you start to cross a lane marking. |

The feature you're talking about, that you deactivated, is Steering Intervention. From the manual: "If a lane marking is crossed... the system intervenes with a brief active steering intervention in addition to vibrating. The system thus helps keep the vehicle in the lane."
Steering Assistant, as described in a 2023 3 Series manual: "The Steering Assistant helps keep the vehicle within the lane. For this purpose, the system executes supporting steering movements, for instance when cornering. Depending on the speed, the system orients itself according to the lane boundaries or vehicles in front. Sensors on the steering wheel detect whether the steering wheel is being touched." Steering Intervention only provides steering input (and alerts) after you have started to cross a lane marker. Steering Assistant is constantly providing steering input to keep you in the center of the lane as you negotiate curves. With Steering Assistant, you only have to hold the wheel light enough to satisfy the touch sensor; the car will steer itself at speed. That is not the case with the system in the 2 series. Steering Intervention is part of the Driving Assistance Package, which all G42s have. Steering Assistant is part of BMW's Driving Assistance Professional Package, which is optional on most BMWs, but not the 2 Series. First screenshot is from the G42 manual; second is from the G20 manual. Last edited by Cwatt79; 04-04-2023 at 01:48 PM.. |

circling back cus I think I figured it out at least what the issue is but not how to solve it...
under the Driving Settings widget --> Driver Assistance --> Driving looks like there's a menu option for Assisted Driving... in the below video it shows this at 0:42. for whatever reason I don't see this option in our car, whether under my profile or the Guest profile... also when pressing the button on the steering wheel to bring up the Content for the center instrument cluster Assisted Driving is not an option. no clue why this is missing or what we did to disable it as I mentioned the night we drove home from the dealer my wife and I noted this functionality... 🤷‍♂️ |

are you sure yo see that view in the car?, afaik no assisted driving mode in G42 as it requieres (at least for id7 it requires) driving assistant profesional and G42 only has driving assistant as option.
Just in case, it was possible to code it in id8, id anytime id8 is supported in bimmercode or similar maybe will be posible to enable it. |

Check your VIN to verify you have this and then call the BMW Genius from the car.

Do you have ACC?
I'd try this, while driving your car with ACC active and in comfort mode set dash into different cluster stiles and select different center display views. I'm not taking to a drive the car till weekend, but just by curious I tried some opcion while parked and one of them shows in the center portion something like a "road", I'm guessing that it's the one with nav indications, but worth a try. |

I was corious about this and found this video about setting assisted view in id8, min 1.10
I tried in the car while parking and at least mine don't have this option (neither range prediction shown in the video, but maybe that is only for electric cars), I will try next weekend in different modes just in case: with acc active, with acc and a route in nav and so on. Just to chime in here I have a G20 M340 and I have driver assist pro (or whatever it’s called this week). The screen your’re showing can be set two ways. You can have it show all the time in the center of the dash instead of the maps. Or you can have it only display when driver assist pro is on. Now, I know our cars dont have the pro assist however, If you option your car with the radar cruise and parking assistance pro you have the tech to do this display. If you do not at least have the 360 camera I dont possibly see how you car would be able to display this view.
Now with that all being said, I was under the impression that our car did not have this view. I wont miss the pro assist as in my opioinion it is only worth while when on long trips and BMW has the worst version of this I have ever used. Interestingly as an aside, with the exception of Tesla Hyuandai has by far the best system. My wife has a Palisade and it can drive for long stretches on the highway without touching the wheel and it’s damn near perfect. |
