Parking Assistant

Hi All!

My apologies in advance for the newbie question but I just ordered my 2023 M2 and have added the parking assistance package, I figured for 200 bucks why not. I have been trying to look at photos to see where these additional parking sensors or cameras are located on the front/rear bumpers or mirrors.

So my questions are where are these sensors/cameras exactly located (if they even exist compared to the standard ones) and does a car having this package look any differently visually then a car that does not have the parking assistance package?

Just sensor based self parking. No extra cameras.

I think it uses the same sensors for the PDC. No additional cameras. It will basically steer you into a parking spot whole you control the pedals and gear selection.

Thanks guys for clearing this up. I have a tight garage so for $200 I figured getting this may help with backing the car in.

Most likely won't. You have to drive past the parallel/perpendicular spot for it to measure if it has enough room to back in.

Man that is bummer , I'm still shocked that this option is even available on a manual transmission.

I have it and have never used the self-parking feature, but the 3D view that is also part of the package certainly helps with safely backing it into the garage.

All the more reason to hold onto my M240ix, the 3D view is awesome, seems like a mistake for BMW to not offer it on the M2.

They did the same with the F87 M2, it didn't get the full parking cameras/sensors until they came out with the M2C. The 360 cams are especially awesome to avoid curbing your wheels.

Not sure about Germania but here in the States I believe there is a law that all new vehicles need to have a rear cam standard. It's no cost and comes with the M2 right from production

For all manufacturers BMW, Toyota, Honda, Benz, Mazda etc .

It would be good to know if any additional cameras or sensors are included. I didn’t get with the manual because it will just identify a space, no auto parking like with the slush box.

If the M4 has 360° cameras then we know why the M2 doesn't. It's not "cost-cutting the M2" if BMW can offer it as an option and clearly the M240i has them. It's pretty much "cost-justifying the M4". When you can buy an M2 with basically the same platform as the M4, why would you buy an M4 for so much more? So they detune the M2's engine, deny you colour options, deny you 360° cameras and deny you laser lights plus other little things. Suddenly if you want these perks, you feel the urge to buy an M4 for the extra cost. BMW win.

Yes, that requirement came in in 2018 for both the US and Canada.

You hit the nail on the head. But, they could net a lot from those who don't want the 4 but would spend to option the 2 up. I would spend $10k or so on that stuff (plus full leather, forged wheels) if it were available.

Check out pgs. 208-222 in the Owners Manual. Sensor locations attached.

Same here to some extent. And for me an M4 would run me down £30,000 more over an M2 so the gap is big enough to fit these things in. However, the price gap in other countries seems significantly smaller. I guess BMW did their due diligence in market research. They can probably incentivise buyers in a few years to upgrade to an upcoming M2CS with those extras as well. Sort of further guarantees two car purchases instead of just the one.

Hey ya’ll super old thread but as a recent m2 owner just noticed that cars with the parking assist camera have additional PDC sensors. My car doesn’t which is prompted me to notice a difference with a car that did have the package

Correct, parking sensors are only on those that have the self parking feature. The functions are different Manual and Auto. If you selected that option you get an additional 4 parking sensors.

But unfortunately no 360 camera option.
