Drive's great - feels like an M car. In case anyone needs to know! Straight forward review of a performance vehicle. Glad to hear this gent reminding folks of the pure strengths found in the new M2.

Looks aside (it’s growing on me), with active suspension I want to see how its track times compares with a cayman s/camyan gt4 (obviously not the rs).

This should come with a big asterisk- Doug focuses on tech, features, quirks, and user experience with relatively little emphasis on driving dynamics.

Also, here we go again. Let’s try to get to 1000 comments- Ready. Set. Go!

That's about the kind of thing we're used to in the G87 forums once someone of influence says something sensible.

It was a sarcastic question because he gave such a glowing review - it really came across like he got paid by BMW.

Also, it seems he didn’t do enough research because some of his statements were totally off, like the one about people hating on the side fenders.

I had a different take. He was just talking sense - for several reasons this car is in its own class, and like others he points out the base M4 as a serious issue for BMW after the M2 release.

Try as they might to limit power and performance, they can't help the fact they dropped the equivalent 4.0 engine in the smaller (Cayman) brother and now the M4 faces tough questions. Every magazine article mentions this.

If you've been in here long enough you've heard people complain about literally every part of the car, including the fenders.

“This is what you wanted!!! Why are you complaining!?” As he says it’s exactly like the E46.

Yes, but the fenders have certainly not been the main criticism, which he portrays as such but doesn’t devote any time to (for example) the weight of the car.

Probably because it's been beaten to death by every "influencer" known to man.

The car stickers for 10k over my wife's Telluride. Why did so many people think it would be built with a carbon tub and bodywork, carbon driveshaft, titanium exhaust, and magnesium wheels?

My car currently sits at 3700 with half a gas tank, and I'm 73K in the hole. I will need to drop another 5k to get to 3600lbs. It is what it is.

I’m not a fan of the design (don’t hate it, don’t love it) but Doug has sold me!

In fact I’d go so far as to say his review is my favourite I’ve seen so far 👍🏻

Toilet brush blue wouldn’t be my choice of colour though 😂

I do like this guy’s reviews, except for his annoying voice and mannerisms. It would be nice if he would just talk normally. There’s no way he talks like that in real life. And I could also do without the 90 seconds of his “Car and Bids” routine. Make it 10 seconds.

He appears to speak as an enthusiast of cars and appreciates the M cars as well. Not sure we have a black bag full of money being delivered by BMW just yet!! He in no way stated the M2 was perfect either.

If you dont like it thats just life. If he made a mistake about the fenders he could have been stating what he heard other reviewers saying on the trip in Arizona. Certainly not a grave error. Email him and ask.

He even said the engine was destined to failure like all the others before it.

My point was simply that his review comes across as very one-sided.

Yeah he makes a few mistakes in the video and sure some of it could be subjective but he didn’t touch upon a few things:
1. He said that the fenders were the main complaint for M-enthusiasts which isn’t really true it’s the front & rear of the car.
2. He said the steering and feedback of the car is excellent which is definitely not true I test drove one and many have and they all still say it’s pretty numb. So…huh?…
3. Most of the video seemed like a hype video and not a car review. So I’m a bit confused about that. Did BMW ask him to do this for them? It seems so a bit. I noticed how inside the car, the camera left out the passenger seat so maybe there was a rep sitting there?

Just pouring my thoughts

Yeah of the people I know who don't like the way it looks, the fenders and how wide it is seems to be the best visual features of the car.

My guess is he just thinks people should be happy to have MT, rwd, and the full M engine hardware. I think he's out of touch with what people want this car to be.

I've now seen a red and black car in person (dealer) and I'm now 100% sold on the design. The F87 was sexy, but the G87 is super agressive.

Doug drives a Ford GT and a Carrera GT…
so if he likes the M2, that says a lot to me.

I saw the car in person the other day and it looks fantastic. The interior is essentially a slightly smaller M4, which means it is really good. If you get an auto, once you add some options it's $20K cheaper than the M4. That definitely raises tough questions. I wish there was more focus on the difference in driving between the M2 and the bigger brothers. I was hoping to hear that the steering/handling of the M2 is way better even though it's a little down on power.
