Change my tires to 245 front / 275 rear TPMS complaining

For those that went with none standard tires. The TPMS system is complaining. Detects a different size I guess. It's not on the list. What do you with the settings or is this something I need to go to dealership to set correct tire sizing?

I just installed 255/35/19 in the front and 275/35/19 in the rear and TPMS was complaining... also my traction control has been cutting engine power...

Manually select tires in TPMS menu and have it relearn. The “auto” setting isn’t what you think it is, it’s for matching the size of the OEM tires when the factory/dealer scans the QR code on the tire.

Am I being an idiot or are both of these over the 1% diameter difference?

Well, he has a 23’ so it most likely is RWD otherwise for sure it would be over the 1% difference for X-Drive.

He has x drive.

I’m not sure 1% between front and rear is a thing. That said, what difference in %age terms, would a wear difference of 2-3mm between front and rear make? >= 1%?

Refer to this post.

I do believe the 1% thing is real. Can’t remember if it is exactly 1% or some other measurement but know someone who ruined their X Drive car by changing tyres and having a big size/diameter difference

I’ll admit I’m not expert when it comes to this but from seeing it online and trying to remember what BMW told my friend about the damage, I’m certain there’s something going on.

So yeah I’d personally never mess about with it on Xdrive. But that’s just me.

From their BMW contact, BMW only allows a 2MM difference on xDrive vehicles.

That is a very low tolerance. Literally just thicker than a nickel.

When the rears wear way more than the fronts from aggressive driving, let's say, you can easily lose far more than 2mm in tread.

So I', not sure how this is able to be maintained.

As I said, that tolerance is on the same axel which I can understand (and have experienced first hand). Front to back I’m not convinced because as you say, tyres wear faster on the back.

On X drive front & rear tires are connected. Mechanical logical says that if there is more than a small tolerance, the f&R tires will cover different distances with each rotation, meaning stress on the system. In this situation, my opinion would be that the design engineer has the best knowledge of the system and the dynamic stresses it can tolerate.

Actually I haven't logged in a while but fixed this issue week after. I just had to reset in the wheel setting. I believe custom setting and setting that way. It worked and hasn't complained since
