470 at the wheels, 410 tq. Amazing value for dollar. And so much mod potential.
If I was at BMW and was responsible for M3/M4 sales, I'd be kinda pissed right now. |

Lol you m2 guys love thinking about the M3/M4 every minute of the day. I think the sales guys who can’t get an allocation for a set of cars 3 years into production will be fine.

I disagree. I’m still waiting on my M3 as it delivers on a bunch of levels: more power and performance, more space, more customization options. I feel like the M2 and M3 are well positioned in different segments and will attract different people.

While the WHP and slightly lower weight is great, how does Porsche keep its 718 weight so low? Even with weight reduction, I doubt the M2 can cut 400lbs.

400lbs is definitely doable on any modern car if you're willing to sacrifice everything that makes it a luxury car. Most of the track guys I know who are into serious weight reduction have cut 350+ lbs from all of the modern M3 gens with ease (just takes time and money).

The 718 is mid engine. So the driveshaft is shorter. It’s also smaller overall and doesn’t have rear seats.

I guess the M2 can do an interior strip, and some CF parts, but you are right, that it will be hard to live with. Which is also why I am wondering how Porsche manages to do it, while staying livable. |

As I’ve been toying with getting a G87, I’ve been thinking so hard about why they couldn’t design this without the rear seat. That whole function has to be around 200 lbs.

Because they know the rear seat is why they have so many customers, if someone doesn't want a rear seat they'd get a cayman. Bmw knows that.

It’s fairly easy to remove the seats yourself anyway. Takes maybe 10-15 minutes.

So... different goals, different target audience, different pricing structures. BMW and Porsche seem to carefully define their offerings to avoid a clear overlap. It's hard to find apples-to-apples. The M2 doesn't really complete with a Cayman (different form factor), and definitely not with a Carrera (costs about twice as much). |

wheelbase of a 718 is 97 inches wheelbase of an M2 is 108 inches. That’s why a 718 weighs 3000 lbs.

Now, enthusiasts have a diff view for the most part, at least the ones in the BMW community. I'm liking what I see from the m2, but I won't be moving down to one and I think the m3 sales will be just fine, it is and will always be the "flagship" m car Anyway, its nice to see the output of power here. I wonder if the LCI m3 is going to get a bump and that's why this is flying so close to the sun.
