Everyone was saying the n55 was way more reliable then n54. So i went ahead and bought a 2014 335i at 17. How could i make it more reliable?

Reliable? Charge pipe and all maintenance.

Then just start learning... read forums, watch youtube videos, etc.

Front main seal, oil pan gasket, then rear main seal are all prone to leak, too; aside from what everyone has mentioned before me.

#1 change oil on time no more than 5k miles
#2 fix any oil leaks, valve cover, oil filter housing gasket (critical one), make sure shop or you prime engine.
#3 only buy oem parts, fcpeuro is good place to buy parts.

I got mine at 17 years old. It’s been great for 6 months. But i just got a drivetrain malfunction. Could this be a big problem?

You need to get a BimmerLink app and obd2 adapter to read the codes. It could be anything, from coil packs/spark plugs to some sensors. How many miles on this car?

If you are going to be taking the car to a shop every time you have an issue, owning and maintaining a BMW is probably going to become expensive very quickly.

THIS. I'm never here for shaming young people for buying nice cars but it's either one way or the other.

You have the money to pay for expensive maintenance or you learn how to troubleshoot & DIY.

Thank you all for the help! I know how to do maintenance, with the help of a little youtube lol. But don’t know how to find the code, is the BimmerLink app and obd2 adapter the best?

Hey OP, congrats on the car.

As others have said, start with basic maintenance. Oil change, air filter change, fix oil leaks as they occur, replace the mickey mouse flange when you can, replace drive belt as needed.

Also as said before, ownership is going to be VERY expensive if you take your car to the shop for every problem. Download and pay for BimmerLink, it is a code scanning app specifically for BMWs.
https://www.bimmerlink.app/

You're also going to need a bluetooth adapter to connect your phone to the car. I got the Veepeak OBDCheck BLE+ Bluetooth from Amazon. It works great.

At some point you may want to also buy BimmerCode, which allows you to change a ton of features about the car so that it functions the way you want.
https://bimmercode.app/

Start with pulling the fault codes, then read about them to know what they mean, then try fixing it yourself. A drivetrain malfunction could be a massive problem, or something as simple as needed new ignition coils and spark plugs.
