BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
You may have seen elsewhere in the forums that I totalled my m2c. Previous to that I had and f82. Today, being the first time I have really gotten on the g87 m2, I wanted to come by and say... WHAT???

Did I read somewhere that the manual is a dog? That's laughable in this car. Perhaps slower shifting than the auto obviously, but in NO WAY is it a dog. I had to drive my 2020 m2c a gear low, so the rpm's stayed high enough to be lively. My m4 was dct, and while I loved the lightning fast shifts, I hated the lurching. This car hauls ass and is far more stable at a high speed.

The new m2 has bmw's long clutch throw and I dislike that, but the stick is better, and more precise feeling. It gains power through every gear, pulling harder as the speed increases. The m2c died fast at 5500 rpm. For those worried about the low end torque of the g87, that is still there. Sideways anywhere you wanna go, if that's your thing. It handles as well or better than both my f87 and f82 at stock height, and I don't feel the 200lbs added weight at all.

If an f82 hurts your back, and an f87 m2 is just a bit too small for you, and if you dont need the back seats that really won't be comfy, this car is choice 1. I was so hesitant for no other reason than some of y'all hate it. Thank God I'm not in grade school anymore. I can't say I would've CHOSEN to get out of my m2c, and into a g87. But being forced, personally, it's a better car for me. Not to mention, it gets attention, and if that's ok with you, you'll enjoy it. No blending in like with the f87...

At no point did the F87 blend in (and I’m sorry you feel that way); it stole the show.

But I’m glad you like your G87.

I have to respectfully disagree, my E92 got more looks than my F87. Only time I noticed the F87 getting looks was from other car people, but the average person rarely showed any interest.

At a show? Yes. Absolutely. Always very popular. Stealing the show, and I loved it. I loved my f87. In the street? You can see mine was modded nicely, but still, no. Average, non car folks do not see it.

I'm glad I like it too. Because that would've been a tragedy, and was actually the case for my m4. I wanted one forever. Finally got it, and was not that into it...

Feeling lucky.

The way you described it hits the nail on the head. BTW, the beach complements the M2's blue.

Your previous cars = Moar better

IMHO, totally fine that YOU like your new one.

Also, as someone who's owns a manual Supra and has shifted a G80 and G87 manual, yea it's the same garbage BMW has been using since the E9X M3's.

The g87 is definitely better for me, and is faster. In corners I cannot say. I'm not going to a track. Feels the same as those cars i had when they were stock height though. Haven't driven an e90 but the clutch in the f87 and g87 feel the same. Too long.

I love this review and the comment about being glad you aren’t in elementary school. It’s your car, you think it’s wonderful and that’s fantastic. Hope you have many years of enjoyment with it!

I appreciate your review, as I will be coming from an F82 manual to a G87 manual. Reading these forums takes a lot of between-the-lines in interpretation, but I trust what you're saying.

Manuals in M cars after the E9X M3's were afterthoughts.

The G87 is going to be an animal on the track, there is no question or doubt on that.

Looks wise, it's subjective but as long as you like it. We're not paying for it lol

Nice write-up! If anyone has a worthy opinion that should be listened to it's certainly you.

I think it's great that the new M2 is turning out to be every bit as good as we hoped, it's exciting that in this day and age BMW has given us a 3L 6-cylinder twin-turbo monster with RWD and a manual, we are treated for sure.

I find it most shocking your gorgeous F87 never got much attention Life is so weird, you speak to some guys on here who say the HS Comps are attention magnets and get love everywhere, then you get others who say it goes under the radar and never gets attention. Strange how different folk have different interactions.

Can't wait to see the modding start on the G87!

It is strange. My F87 never got attention. Not that I cared, I'm not seeking attention. The car just wasn't attention grabbing.

I’ve never got more compliments on a color than my Hockenheim Silver F87, but driving around town it’s pretty low key. My Estoril Blue F30 340i got way more attention.

The more I see the G87 the more I’m warming to it. I just wish they’d improve the transmission (DCT or better manual). If they offered that as a CS addition + few tweaks to weight, lights, dash etc I could see myself snapping one up. One can dream.
