Can I do better? Proposed Winter Setup

OK, I drive in Winter, and in snow, and in the pothole-ridden Boston corridor.

Let's say I have roughly $4K as a budget (tires and wheels). Can I do better than this plan?

Square setup running 275/35R19. Ignore the exact winter tires for a sec, I consider them pretty interchangeable.

The wheels should be 19x9.5, I think EOM ET is 25. Seems logical that a decent load rating + low unsprung weight is a good idea to resist potholes. I'd also like something I can get in brushed/clear color, as IMO it is easier to clean than black.

So it's a cliche, but WHY NOT use APEX VS-5RS? Only 19.1 lbs, can get them in clear color, under $800.

(The SM-10 are probably also a cheaper option, but weight 3.5 lbs more.)

Unless I care about looks or badge, I don't see any advantage to using OEMs (826M, 827M) as winters.

Did I miss anything?

In Chicago here. On my G80, I ran a set 829M plus Alpins in the winter and now trying a set of 827M plus Pilot Sport All Seasons. I ordered both since tire and wheel supply chains were delayed last year and I needed something to drive on. They both finally arrived. And I kept them both because I was pretty sure I’d get a G87. So I’m not sure which ones I’m going to put on it assuming I get it but I like the way the 829Ms look on a G87 after seeing a couple of winter pics. If you don’t like black wheels you may not like either of these. The 829Ms with the above tires were $3k and the 827Ms were $4k.

I don't have any specific problem with the 827Ms (although they weigh more than the APEXes), but the 829Ms are listed as a whopping 33.1 lbs! Hanging that much weight on the front concerns me, did you have any issues with turn-in?

Wheel weight should not be a concern in winter conditions. It doesn't matter if they're 19lbs or 30lbs.

You can do what I did with my G80 and run this for about $2600 all in:

VMR v710 19x9.5 et22 square with 275/35 Vredestein Wintrac Pro tires. I did keep my 15mm f / 12mm r spacers on with this, though... mostly for aesthetics.

I got everything through EAS... tpms, mount, balance and shipped for $2600 back in 2021. Got me through two winters so far with no issues.

I thought OEM ET was 20mm, not 25.
