Fair place for install?

Hi folks,

I just bought a G80 and ordered a KW Has spring kit. I asked a shop that has done all my work on my past BMWs about doing the install and also an alignment. They quoted me $2500~!

I was/am in shock by that number.

Can anyone that has had this done tell me about what you paid? Am I crazy or is this like $1000 more than expected?

This feels like a ton of money for something that is considered to be a pretty standard thing to do to M3s.

thanks in advance!

hmmm... this shop told me the book quoted 9 hours of labor.
I almost spit out my coffee when I read that!

9 hours of labor is pretty crazy. Bmw quotes 4 hours of labor and a trusted shop local to me also quoted 4 hours of labor at $700. I would definitely shop around, where are you located?

Sometimes I think when a shop spits out an absurd price like that, it usually means they are not interested in the work or customer.

Same. Then it was $350 for an alignment/corner balance at Chewerks.

Possibly they are quoting book time? Either way, that would be $300+/hr labor.

Book time and real time doesn't always match up in all cases. Book quotes roughly 8 hours for replacing coil springs, we can complete it in less than half that. Book sometimes comes up short - so we quote real time.

Wow...seems a bit high. I paid $1800 for the kit and install including an alignment (which should be done). So, the install/align was about $700 of that price on an x-drive. And that's South Bay pricing, too.
