Hello everyone,

I just hit 1000 miles on my car, only washed it once with clean microfibers so I was surprised to see how easy it was to get scratches, specifically on the black plastic parts of the front bumper. Please let me know if anyone has recommendations on polishes, or scratch removers as I plan on going to Autozone to get Nu Finish Scratch Doctor. I ultimately plan on getting PPF done.

Almost looks/sounds like there was aome sand/grit on the car/cloth/in the water when you went to clean.

To all, this is one reason ppf (at least on the front clip) is so important. It will protect the car from not just rock chips but instances like this, bug damage, bird crap and even acid rain.

The shop should polish that out before applying PPF but you should still point it out and make sure they do. If you want to remove them yourself I recommend Meguiar's ScratchX. It's great for removing light and minor scratches by hand.

I saw your quote from the other thread about break-ins, and now that I think about it, my car was definitely washed when I picked it up. Maybe that wash has something to do with the swirls because I am pretty OCD about the detailing process and noticing the "cobb webb" effects really annoyed me.

Advice for everyone else...
Don't let the dealer wash your car, ever. Even when you pick it up, try to get the dealer to NOT wash your car. The front bumper is a black plastic material that scratches VERY easily.

My CA put a do not wash sticker on my car. All CA's should.

All cars get washed at VPC. Could’ve happened there.

Invest in some good towels from the rag company.

It's black...that's the biggest problem. Black paint will scratch when you look at it. I would ppf that area as soon as I get my car.

I’m a hobbyist detailer and I wouldn’t recommend marketed scratch repair polishes. They typically only temporary mask the scratch with fillers. After a wash or two the fine scratches will be present still, even with proper washing practices. To permanently remove fine scratches from piano black exterior trim, I’ve had excellent results by using sonax perfect finish with my nano ibrid polisher. Depending how bad the scratches are other polishes and polishing pad combinations can take care of them as well.

The shadowline trim is notoriously super soft. It will present swirls even with the best wash practices. A polish and coating would help a little, but if it’s really bothering you, then get the areas PPF’d

My HEA car came with the same scratches in the same location, it looked to me like the protective film they had on there for shipping maybe came loose or something. However, they put PPF over it since the replacement piece they ordered for it wasnt available yet, the PPF completely "fixed" it, cant see any of the scratches at all, looks new. Ill keep the replacement piece just in case it gets damaged somehow.

Apologies if replying to an older thread is frowned upon, but a company called 'Novus' makes plastic polish that I've used in the past and had excellent results with. Cleaner waxes can remove very fine scratches as well. For deeper scratches that fine polishes wont touch, a product like VSS by Chemical Guys works with good results (I dont like using abrasives, even if they diminish upon use if it's not absolutely necessary. It's like bringing a machete where a scalpel should have been used).
