Ok so it does make me rather excited for him cuz I remember what it was like experiencing your first love with Manual, let a lone being paired to a fully
pledged drivers car…🥰 HOWEVER… Turn turn fucking camera to the road, and keep talking.... To the express your emotion with your stiff body language, 3% of thr screen time is more than enough. 🗣️ |

Unfortunately never had a 5. Currently own a x5. LT4 engine is a beast, steering is better than my bmw X5 and OG M2. Suspension is more forgiving but keeps the car very level. I don’t know on tranny since it’s my first manual but it feels very mechanical and clutch bite point was easy to find. Tech is similar to F series, interior is equal to my OG M2. Fit and finish isn’t as good. Overall driving dynamics of car is really good and it scares u a bit since there is so much power so low in power band. Accidentally spin tires all the time in 2-3k range as I keep learning on the manual. Car drives smaller than it is.

I do find it funny how you Canadians/Americans romanticise manual transmissions. Up until a few years ago almost everyone in the UK would learn to drive manuals. Only in recent years have AT driving tests gained in popularity. It’s virtually impossible finding a driver in the UK who can’t drive manual. Don’t get me wrong, I love manuals as much as the next guy but I have no shame in owning a DCT, I guess I have nothing to prove haha.
Also “It’s my first ever manual… let me turn off traction control first” . Dude, learn to walk before you run. Credit to him for jumping in at the deep end though with a manual. |

For me personally, I only like driving good manuals or dual clutch. Most AT systems are still slow and boring and many MTs are rubbery and notchy. Guess I’m picky |

He did drive a manual, he's just not great at it like... everyone here, it seems.
what's everyone's definition of "knowing how to drive a manual" anyways? What I'm not hearing though are the burbles and gurgling (and all that yummy sounds) that's in every shift and gas release I make on my LCI.

Technically you can still downshift an automatic transmission.

For someone who’s only put 146km on his first manual car, I’d say he’s doing pretty well filming a video and talking his way through the entire thing.
So I get that he’s just parroting the whole rubbery gearshift feel thing, but could someone please explain what exactly is rubbery about a BMW shifter? Between my dearly departed E46 M3 and two E92 335i’s, I probably have 100k miles of seat time behind BMW manuals, and notchy is an adjective I might understand, but they are extremely mechanically engaging…

The manual vehicles I've owned:
S2000 - phenomenal shifter Acura TSX (Euro H. Accord) - pretty good, less mechanical feel than the S2000 Ford Contour/Mondeo - rubbery. There was a minor mod that would help some, but not enough. I drove a Ford Ranger back in the day, but didn't technically own it. Everything else I've experienced has had a numb rubbery feeling. Please tell me the M2 or other performance BMW manual transmissions are similar to the S2000. I'm considering ordering a manual M2 by end of year or sometime in 2024 and this could make the decision a bit eaiser. I've never driven a manual Porsche, but imagine they are top notch as well. |
