2023 M2  [8.33]
Finally gave it the Beans...

So I've had my G87 for about a month now, have a whppping 450 miles. I usually follow the break-in process, make sure the vary the RPM, warm the motor up, don't go over 4K RPM. I was at the stop light and looked at the virtual owners manual which said for the first 600 miles, keep it under 5K RPM and over 600 get it up to 6K. I'm like, F it I'm close enough.
Open road, threw it into M2, put the gauges into track mode and hit it up to 6K.

This
Thing
Flys

Current mods are KW H.A.S. and spacers on stock wheels.
Power delivery, compared to my 2020 F87C, totally different experience. Where the F87C felt like a muscle car with low to mid range punch, it ran out of steam in the top end. It overwhelmed the tires and was a hoot.
The G87 though, feels like an old school turbo car where the power delivery is all up top. When it hits, it hits and hits hard. The car seriously pulls after 4K. Again, I got it up to 6K so the sample is relatively small but for people that are worried this car doesn't perform, forget about that shit. It's absolutely fucking fast.
Another difference between the F87C & the G87 are the handling characteristics. The G87 has sharper turn in and is able to put the power down. On a track, I guarantee you, the G87 is faster.
It's just a different experience. I loved my F87C and I'm absolutely loving the G87 so far.
Instead of bitching and moaning about a car changing, drive it, the thing is absolutely a monster. After the break-in, I'll give yall the full report and a honest comparison between my F87C. But for now, take my word for it, this car absolutely rocks.

Love to hear it! Any other plans for it in the near future?

Yup. Coming directly off driving my B58 powered Z4 ~800 miles in two days and then turning directly around with the G87 M2 I was like “holy sh!t” the first time I tested the higher RPM range.

Wasn’t expecting to feel such a noticeable difference.

This was a fun overnight road trip the first week I got my F87. 625 miles: https://maps.app.goo.gl/SgPwc26jXF7EL3fz8?g_st=ic

Get that 1,200 and see if you can be the first one to get your break in service performed. Has anyone on the forums hit 1200 yet? 😎

This is the underrated advice.

Unless I come across owning a car that’s irreplaceable, in this car market I’ll be switching every few years.

Lack of top end in my F87C doesn't bug me as much as the risk to the crank hub when tuning it to correct it...

I just got break in service done. You take this car above 6k rpm you are going to jail. Period.

I've only got about 250 miles on mine and I've accidentally hit 7k (first gear in the ZF8 is just basically done by the time your foot hits the floor) and I've hit 6k very much not accidentally a few times (I was never going to be able to strictly follow break in, sorry), and the car can be shockingly fast. To the point that I don't know if I'll ever want to do any power mods, maybe just make it a smidge louder. It's a beast.

PPF goes one tomorrow, and I plan to hit the highway and get to 1200 miles sooner than later. Then I don't have to feel bad about how I'm driving.

I’m at 1,500 as of yesterday. Already have had break-in performed, of course.

This is awesome. Could you recommend something in the southeast region?

One of the reasons I sold mine. No way I could avoid legal problems. Had fun with a neighbor driving his GT3 one night and noticed I was doing 95 in a 55. There just aren't roads built for these kinds of cars anymore with all the traffic and potential legal headaches. Track days are a must.

Southeast Washington? I haven't had the opportunity yet to enjoy driving east of Grand Coulee & Moses lake. If not this year then hopefully next year!

Wait what? Did you sell your G87? I think I remember you were one of the first (if not the first) person to post about taking delivery!

Sounds nice but southeast more like US Southeast.

I’ve heard it’s not as fun anymore due to increased traffic and increase police presence etc. There must be more in the region, there are several just fun roads nearby but trying to create a long route that also helps in adding miles towards the break-in.

I haven’t been recently. My solution to break-in is to pick up the M2 on the East Coast and drive it home to AZ…with a break-in service in the Midwest. It’s an adventure 😉

What city are you near?

Another approach is to just pick somewhere far away and select "avoid highways" ... that'll at least put you on single lane roads where you need to plan and execute passes and will naturally give you more RPM variance than normal highways.

And then as you're driving the route ... take random turns on some smaller roads that intersect and look of at least C+ road quality, lol. Those usually end up being close to zero traffic and fun and sometimes will dead-end or just spit you back onto the main road.

Exploring is half the fun! This is an app called Fog of World (you'll get slight sticker shock when you look it up. It increases price every year for some reason)

Got a 1200 break in service scheduled for May 31. Car has around 1160 miles on it. Going to be tough to keep from going over 1200 miles. But I had the oil/filter service done -- at my expense -- at 600 miles so if I go over I don't think it is that big of a deal.

The oil/filter and diff fluid service -- my car has a 6-speed -- is run of the mill servicing to some degree, but I'm really interested in what effect (if any) this action has on the car: "Deactivate the 1200 MI. RiS via diagnostic path".
