Saying the gearing of the car is bad for the track, because you have to shift to get the “juice” above 3k RPM (every car is like that).

Cool vlog though if that’s your thing and you like a person so much you need to see their daily life.
Dunno, not sure it's productive to nitpick an admittedly hobbyiest driver. Just sayin. I figure we already have Jackie for the more hardcore stuff, it's also fun to see what a more casual person thinks. Very IMO of course.

To be clear, I'm not even saying the critiques are wrong, DD's never really even driven a manual before, as we know from his other vids.

He definitely is not experienced at walking a track, planning his lines, and having a shift plan. Also, that was a very tight track, almost auto-cross like, which did him no favors as a MT newbie.

He also bounced the redline several times, sure.

My takeaway was that the car's grip, stability, and power was really helping him keep decent times despite his inexperience. The G87 is very much NOT a 911 that would have been biting him hard. It's very forgiving for a non-expert driver.

I'm sure if he invests into it, he'll learn how to take advantage of the G87 's dynamics. He's got a horsepower and braking advantage, he'll learn how to get deep into corners, walk the end out, and get back on the power.

Dude needs to learn how to drive a manual before he turns everything into a video. Incapable and cringey driving skills…

Why? This is his first manual car and he loves it and is just sharing his experience learning everything about the car, including a lot of mods us fellow owners are or will be doing. It’s refreshing to me to see someone just be themselves and share honest experiences and opinions. He’s a fellow forum member and he’s earned my support and encouragement to stay the course.

I must agree. Not to say I am any MT expert, but it is very cringey. Props for atleast pulling these antics at a race track instead, seen him do irresponsible stuff on public roads which I can’t stand behind by any means.

these are today's "facts" to many folks. i appreciate vloggers making these but folks need to be smart enough to take it with a grain of salt... unfortunately many aren't.

"Not gonna watch another YouTube video they are all a massive waste of time."

Thanks for watching mine, it must have been REALLY special for you watch another YT video only 1 week after making such strong convictions! Thanks babe <3

Totally agree, that's why I put first impressions in the title. Definitely take them with a grain of salt, I'm no expert.

I think this is a great, concise overview of the video. I'm obviously a rookie that's new to manual and new to this track, yet still managed to put down an impressive lap time on a very technical track. Speaks volumes to how capable the car is bone stock on P zero tires. Like you said, the power, mechanical grip and even the traction management system were all superb in my eyes.

Sorry again if I sounded harsh, good to see you here on the forums, and I hope you continue on your path to growing and learning, and continue to have fun and share the fun with us!

With a belt harness trick you’d be better secured in the seat, and if you sit closer to the wheel you’ll have better control of the car and hold yourself better too (make sure you can touch your wrist on the top of the wheel without moving your back from the seat).

And, please, stop saying mechanical grip! :P

Unsolicited advice is garbage, I know… You at least have videos, so you know how to do this better than me

Cheers fellow Canuck. Your car being an HEA must be the exact replics of mine…
Thanks! Yea I'll definitely have to get some proper gloves and bring my seat forward more as well. Whats this belt harness trick by the way?

Would you still double clutch even with automatic rev matching? Asking because I was only tempted to try double clutching in sport plus in my f80.

No, I was just being facetious quoting the og “fast and furious”

Slight tangent: On modern cars you should never double clutch, it's just old-fashioned advice that no longer applies. Double clutching only makes sense on older cars without good synchros and some trucks.

Now move your seat forward back into your regular position. It’ll be tight tight.

Gloves don’t help much, unless your hands sweat. You’ll lose steering feel with them too.
Oh that's smart, I'll definitely need to try that next time. I think I should get gloves, hands sweat like crazy on hot track days.

Nothing wrong with gloves. Some people like them, some people don't. You should try them and see what works better for you. If you don't like them, you can take them off.

My first car was a '69 Bug back in '73. 96k miles, and the 2nd gear synchro was GONE - not possible to downshift without a major grind. So one of my buddies bought me how to double-clutch my downshifts, and with just little bit of practice, I could slide that sucker into 2nd smooth as butter, because the synchro wasn't even necessary when properly rev-matched. And, it was fun to do.

Is there any reason to do it today? With auto rev matching, probably not - you're not likely to wear out a synchro in a modern transmission in its lifetime anyways, and the auto rev matching takes care of the rest.

If you properly rev match, or rather optimize the shift points, you don’t have to use the clutch.

I would not experiment on a new expensive M car, but I have done this in the past. Very cool when it works, supremely cringey when it doesn’t. YMMV.

Keep doing your thing, DD; my first manual was a 1994 Honda Accord DX, purchased as my first car in 2000.

You'll get there!

Much love and keep it rolling...
