Tire temperatures/pressures...

Took a drive yesterday -- having a hard time staying out of the car now the break in service is out of the way -- and after some 6 miles on an interesting road but one I drove at a fairly sedate pace -- due to concern about deer -- -- and had the tire pressure/temperature display up.

Noticed the left front tire running a few degrees hotter than the other 3 tires. And this was consistent even before I got to the interesting road and after on the way home on the freeway.

Not sure what to make of this. Oh I don't think the car's junk or there's a serious problem it is just to have one tire consistently run hotter than the other 3 tires seems a bit odd.

Will add while the tires differ in pressure the pressures were back and forth between 35psi and 34psi. My tire pressure gauge is not good enough to get the tire pressures closer. Time to get a better tire pressure gauge I guess.

Well you are sitting in the front left while driving.

You guys took the words out of my mouth.
I was going to ask how much you weigh….

Half-joking, I think it’s not as important as the fact you might have been on a road with more/sharper right turns…

Nail in tire!....

Been checking tire pressures every drive. For several days now every day when I get in the car I have noticed the left rear tire a couple of PSI low and I know it was ok the day before. I've aired the tire now several times and today when I got in and noticed the tire low again I decided the tire had a slow leak.

Drove to the BMW dealer and car was taken back promptly. After a few minutes was informed a nail was found in the left rear tire.

While the nail was close to the side wall it wasn't that close (added: forgot to take a pic with the car on the lift!) and the decision was made to fix the tire. BMW shop not setup to fix tires so tech took wheel/tire over to the Mazda dealer next door and did the job there. $62.58 was the cost and this included a balance.

SA told me the dealership had no tires in stock: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S XL BSW 285/30ZR20 99(Y). (Whew!)

Asked if a new tire is needed how long does it take to arrive? Day or two.

Will cross fingers the fix hold. New tire costs $582.34 installed. At that price I think I lost the "tire lottery"...

Tire Rack has them in stock. $420.64 + $29.16 for install at Firestone. For future reference.

I’ve never had an issue. I bounce between them and Costco depending on price and where I am.

It really depends on the individual doing the change over at the time… luck of the draw.

BTW OP your profile says you drive a “VB M2”.

It’d be really cool to have a Voodoo Blue M2!

Yeah true. I guess there's these new whamadyne touchless automated machines that supposedly makes it foolproof. Been looking for local shops with one.

30,000 mile warranty! Wow…
I think it used to be 25,000 km! Or maybe it just is different here?

I think it’s impossible to get to that mileage. But at least they should reimburse a pro-rated amount at changeover. It’s always a pain with uneven wear to get the warranty

And the amount is minimal. I just got $22 each from Costco for a set of Michelins (can’t remember the treadwear) and then you have to pay a $15 per tire warranty fee.

Slightly off topic, but does the crowd still tend to favor Conti and Slime's patch kits? Been a while since I asked the crowd.

Based on my first and last experience with a Firestone tire store and my Boxster I would not take my M2 to a Firestone tire store.

Turns can affect tire temperature but the road was a country road with as best I can tell a balance of right and left hand turns. And I was not pushing the car hard due to as I mentioned concerns for deer.

Will drive the car some more and keep an eye on tire pressure -- to ensure the repaired tire is holding air -- and see if that left tire still manifests elevated temperature.

Not only the actual tire change that is risky. The tech may not even know how to properly lift the car.
