Sometimes I wonder if BMW made a deal with companies that produce lowering springs / coilovers, to get a cut of the sales of those.

Because I refuse to think that someone at BMW actually looked at these two cars and said: "you, this is the perfect ride height for a sports car"... It's the same for the M3, M4... I honestly don't know what they were thinking

Probably Street car rules, pedestrian safety and approvals, daily life situations and a lot of garages that need that minimum clearance. So who want the car lowered can do it later but majority will let the car stock.
