What Are You Cross Shopping?

Curious what others are cross shopping the M2 with and why you went with (or plan to go with) the BMW M2.

I have my M2 ordered with the carbon buckets and most options.
I want it to be a daily drivable track car project. I'll be modifying it quite a bit

my other choice, but In a different price range is the Porsche 718 GT4 manual, for the same reasons

I looked at the CT4BW and Cayman but never had a doubt the M2 was the car for me, even when I had the opportunity to buy either of those cars immediately. I guess it helps that I already had a G42 M240i.

I have my order in on a new M2 but I'm actually looking to test drive the new Integra Type S.

Inputs should be better across the board vs the m2 (shifter, driving feel, etc) but I don't know if I can "revert" to a fwd 4 cyl setup. Interior will be a big step down too other than the ELS sound system.

Thought about a used GTS 4.0 Manual but the prices are absurd right now and probably will be forever at this point.

Funny enough I seen a CT4-V Blackwing at a car show this weekend and is what got me thinking about it. I realize it's a 4-door, but even still. Did you get an opportunity to test drive it?

I have an order placed for a GTS 4.0 with my local Porsche dealer and I know I’ll never see it.

I did. It felt extremely claustrophobic for a 4-door sports car. The only attributes I preferred over the M2 were the gearbox and styling. The looks are subjective, and the gearbox felt notchier and had shorter throws. In terms of the engine and the interior fit/finish, the BMW is a no brainer.

The 4BW was also the only car I really considered and test drove. It's got more rear room. The shifter feels better, but I found the driving experience overall less precise. I also do not like GM's infotainment system.

I think if you were hauling around more adults, the BW is the better pick. But if you don't need the room, I think the G87 edges it out in a lot of other categories.

I'm also going to drive the ITS, hopefully next week, and have deposits on both. But no idea when I might actually get an M2.

I drove the CT4V BW and was impressed with what it was for a GM vehicle, but not the right car for me.

Supra and Z last year but couldn't get a stealership to agree to MSRP. Went to a Bmw dealer and they are willing to do msrp on the M2.

Didn't really cross shop other cars. Saw the M2 pics and read up on the specs and decided I wanted one. Well, actually I was looking to get an 240i but wanted a 6-speed manual. Then when I found out that couldn't be I turned my attention to the M2. More money than the 240i. But still quite affordable. I had a 2022 230i with low miles trade in and the balance I could write a check for.

(If I didn't love my 2023 MINI JCW so much I'd order a 240i for my daily driver. However, my sister just picked up a new X4 M40i (in Phytonic Blue) and it is a beautiful vehicle and is a tempting choice. Would be my first SUV.)

Liked the 230i, my 1st BMW (don't count my 1st MINI a 2018 JCW as a BMW car), and decided it was time to experience an M2 car.

Fortunately I was able to locate a launch car that was not spoken for and buy it. Zandvoort Blue, black leather interior, 6-speed, carbon fiber roof.

I'm really liking the car. Have owned the car since April 14 and it has received more favorable comments and thumbs up than any other car I have owned in the same amount of time. About every time I take the car out in fact.

Not that I need confirmation the car's a good looking car.

Almost 2K miles and the car is comfortable, fast, feels great on the road and curvy ones, too. If driven reasonably delivers pretty good gas mileage.

Besides the G87, I've been mainly looking at the G80. The dealership near my house has two CT4-V Blackwings. I looked inside of one. The interior looks small. They asked if I wanted to test drive, but I can't get over the engine (worried about reliability). I like the Supra, Z, and really want a C8, but wife wants at least four seats (two kids). She's pushing for the G80. I'm hesitant on the G80 grill (and finding one).

I was and maybe still am considering the C8. The problem for me is my budget. I’m capped out right around 70k. For that price, it would be a base model LT1. I would be worried about future resale value. Maybe I’m off base with that, but it’s my current thinking.

I just test drove the Integra Type S. Some initial impressions after testing driving the G87 and owning my F87 OG. I'm not a pro so don't roast me and this was a relatively brief test drive.

This is taken from the perspective of a year round DD.

Steering feel: Best in the Integra. Weight definitely does a make big difference. There was less on center play vs my M2 which is already fairly taught. Steering weights up really well and the steering rack has a good steering speed.

Shifter/Trans feel: Definitely better than both M2s. That said, I don't think it's as much of a difference as outlets play on. I'd say it's roughly 20% better if I had to assign a number to it. Was very easy to get into and drive. Auto Rev match did not feel as "exciting" and quick as either M2 though. Clutch feel was good but not infinitely better than either M2 either IMO. Definitely much shorter travel. I will say there was more rev hang than I expected.

Power: I didn't redline this or push it very hard, but has tons of torque in the mid-range. This is more than enough for public roads. I didn't experience any torque steer but was also not punching this off the line.

General driving: Integra feels extremely planted. The M2's definitely float a bit, this feels like it stuck to the ground better. I didn't take any extremely quick corners but the quicker corners I did take I did not notice any understeer, it was very neutral. I think you would really need to hamfist the car to induce significant understeer on public roads. Turn in actually feels sharper than my M2. Not as good as the new M2 but in general it's very good. Suspension is good, not on par with new M2 with the adaptive dampers but better than F87 I would say. I would need more time with the car to really get into specifics though.

Sound: This is where the f87 really shines. The Integra sounds decent, some pops/bangs when you warm it up, but it has absolutely nothing on the N55. S58 sounds significantly better than the Type S but the N55 is far better than both IMO. I expected this coming into a 4cyl platform but it was a bigger difference than expected when I got back in my car.

Interior: Very useable but a massive step down from the G87. You really feel a large difference here and the tech is on a different level on the new M2. It's generally on the same level as the F87 I would say. No gimics though and the sound system is far better than both of the Harmon Kardon units. The hatch is extremely usable and it has usable back seats. This isn't a huge concern for me but it's a big plus for most vs the M2s. Seats are pretty good and the alcantara add on felt great.

Looks: I'm a huge fan of the styling. Looks far, far better than the new M2 (don't kill me) and I would say it's on par with my F87. Looks aggressive enough but isn't boy racer like the Fk8.

In general I think this car is a lot of fun as a DD and I don't think I would miss my F87 and it certainly has more "feel" than the G87. I get why Mark from SG would comment that the new M2 is too isolated/dull after driving the Type S. That said, the G87 is far better as a luxury car. Many will dismiss this for being a 4cyl fwd car but I implore you to take a spin.

I'm likely pivoting from the new M2 and going to pick one of these if I can find for for MSRP (probably need to wait/shop around) and spend the savings on an E46 or E36. I will definitely miss the sound of the F87 so I am also considering just sticking with my F87 for the time being as well. I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't miss my M badge.

Apologies for the ramblings.
