Mid Pipe

Luckily we now we tons of brands offering mid pipe solutions for our G8X platform. Unlike some of us early G8X adopters had to go mid-pipe mod route.

IMO it’s a must to wake up the beast. Personally I will be running catless DP with mid-pipe. Still debating which brand to pick, and either go with single, equal or X. I ran X pipe mod on my previous M3C.

If you want to only make one change to the exhaust, would you go with a catless DP (and fake sensors for CEL) or with a midpipe? Which one would give the better sound in your opinion?

I am leaning toward a DP because it also allow you to get more performance with a stage 2 tune.

i prefer catted for less rasp and more midrange volume, but either way go with downpipes for maximum sound increase

Once the single midpipe is available, pair it with it, and you are set

I just got my single mid from a company called valvemaster. Quality looks 8/10. I’ll post up clips once I install

Hey Mike, any updates on this? Also, any other mid pipes that you would recommend?

Does single give you that nice smooth exhaust note like EL does? I would think not.
Any gains from a midpipe alone? Not sure if those resonators have any restrictions to back pressure.
If there are gains to be had, does a single usually make more power than a EL? Seems like a weight savings with the single vs EL albeit minor.
All that being said, I am leaning towards an EL just based off of the Valvetronic video of their EL, it sounds legitimately good. I really can't stand a raspy exhaust, I've seen about 12whp with a highflow catted DP on the G87 but I'm debating if it's worth the cost and trouble of a CEL and not being able to pass NYS inspection (they connect to your OBD port here and check for emissions trouble codes).

The single has a cleaner sound than equal length. Its got a deep mid-range tone with a rasp-free high RPM sound. The single midpipe offers the cleanest sound.

Equal length offers a deeper mid-range tone than the single, with a more aggressive high RPM sound. It's considered a clean setup with minimal rasp but is not as clean as the single.

The single is a safe choice that everyone likes because of how clean it sounds. The equal length is the most popular because it offers the best of both worlds, clean tone and aggressive sound.

I changed the mid pipes on my G05 M50i. As the truck got older, the better it sounded. I got a couple pieces of SS 3" and had my mechanic cut out the mid mufflers and weld in the straight mid pipes. I guess thats a EL config. Everyone on the G05 forum said the EL was better sounding than the X or H. Its not too much and not too little. I love the way it sounds. I will be doing the same on my M2 when it comes in. Its a lot cheaper to have ur mechanic cut out the stock mid pipe and weld on a straight mid. Cold start is loud thou. But when put in Eco pro, it quiets down. Flaps always open via fuse pull. When in Sport Plus, the truck pops and bangs and gurgles like its mouth wash. And the higher RPMs scream. But when I need it to be subtle, I just put in Eco plus or pro or whatever it is, and I can drive normally.

Coming from a v8 with long tubes / full exhaust the G87 will be on the too quiet side. An EL mid will likely go on right after break in service. It should help get some levels of sound back but definitely still subtle. And the cold starts will never be as violent which is really a good thing lol.

I didnt have full exhaust on the G05. Just the mid pipe muffler delete. I will do the same on the G87 but I will not pay the price they are selling for when all you have to do is cut out the mid muffler and put a straight pipe in its place. Not looking for anything loud.

Random question and I didnt know where else to ask, but, Would there be any detriment to adding a mid-pipe prior to break-in? On my X3M I waited until after, but I dont know if it really matters.

currently running 200 cel evolution racewerks down pipes, psi mid pipes, and dahler exhaust flap controller. IMO the dp's and mid pipes were too much for my liking. The psi mid are amazing though. Perfect fitment, great craftsmanship, and are completely nonrestrictive.

i recommend resonated or catted midpipes when paired with high flow downpipes.
