Launch Control: 0-60mph

Grabbed a quick video of launch control, works pretty well. Going to try and time it next time. Ordering a draggy soon.

4.57 seconds today. I'm confident I can do much better but this was one try today and I'm still a little hesitant after my 2nd gear grind yesterday. With more practice I'm confident I'll get her closer to 4.

OP, you did better than the 3.9 claimed by bmw. I clocked 3.7 or 3.8.
And you did it with 35psi in the rear. Deflate the rears to 32psi and try it again

Anyone try launching in 2nd gear to see what happens? Either auto or 6 speed manual.

If I'm not mistaken, manual requires you to be in 1st for launch control to activate. From the manual,

Starting with launch control
Manual transmission

1. Turn on drive-ready state.

2. Activate M Dynamic Mode.
M Dynamic Mode (MDM), refer to
page 186.

3. Step on the clutch pedal.

4. Engage first gear.

5. Press the accelerator pedal all the way
down.

A destination flag is displayed in the instrument cluster.
Preparing Launch Control. An appropriate
Check Control message is displayed.
Keep the accelerator pedal in this position.

6. The starting engine speed adjusts. With
sufficiently high starting torque, the Launch
Control is active.
An appropriate Check Control message is
displayed.
Disengage the clutch quickly within approx.
6 seconds. The vehicle accelerates.

7. Observe the Shift lights and upshift on time.

Not fair. You have had lots of time with your new M2 to understand all the specs! My M2 is just a twinkle in my eye at this point waiting on the allocation.

On the F22 forums folks were launching in 2nd gear (might have been auto trans cars only) but not using the built in launch control. It was more of a brake-boosting scenario and I recall some guys were getting solid times. Personally, I am not that interested in my car's drag times, I'm just curious about how this new M2 works. Now we start talking about track times I can get behind that.

Same. I timed the video on my phones stopwatch and I am getting 3.7-3.8 as well.

I'll give it another couple of goes with lower PSI as well try it in 2nd gear (if possible, not sure launch control will engage, but i'll try!).

If I wanted to drag race I would have probably kept my M240i xDrive 8AT. Pretty sure they've clocked faster at stock than even an automatic M2.

I noticed a couple YouTubers trying to launch their manual 6-speed, and couldn't seem to get below a 4.4 sec 0-60. I have yet to try my manual launch as it's hard in the city area, but considering picking up a draggy to test out some time.

I'm right there with you. My current car (19 M240i auto trans, and LSD) running MHD stage 2 with supporting bolt-ons is very quick and would take down the G87 in a straight line. Now, on a track with all the turns, no way!

I have close to 3K miles on my M2. I guess its about time I tried out launch control!

Do let us know if you manage to get a good time! Lowest I could get was 4.43 during a day where I launched it 15 times. (manual ofc)

Ok, then to play fair...once I have completed my G87 M2 8AT DME stage 2 build, care to race me with your 19 M240?

I think it would be a much closer race than you think. My zero to 20 MPH isn't the best with all the torque but once planted my car scoots.

But, I am going to say no thanks to the race because I am currently selling the M240i and waiting on an allocation for the G87. If I still have my M240i by the time you are done with your build I would be pretty disappointed.

My G87 just started production this week but I have a lot ready to go. I know the figues from the tune will be about 650whp/575wtq on 93 octane (with the power band for the torque more at the low end).

Those are impressive power numbers. I'm very much looking forward to see what some guys do for tuning. My current car is easy with an unlocked DME so curious if the main requirement will be the FEMTO unlock or just a bench unlock for the G87.

I'm on two waiting lists with my local dealers, #3 and #5 respectively. Should be up for an allocation in the next 2 months then best case scenario is getting a car by October. Not sure yet how much tuning I will be doing with the new one though.

Right now, for US owners, its femto unlock and then the tuner of yourchoice. I have heard of a private shop in Germany able to unlock without femto.

I originally told myself I wasn't going to tune it but coming from a B9 S5 with 560wtq, stock wasn't gonna cut it.

What will be your traction strategy? Stock rubber definitely won't cut it.

295/30/20 PS4Ss in the rear. Should do fine. Not putting Nitto drag radials on as I will be screwed in the rain.

I can say I'm very happy with my 295/30/20s after some hesitation. Car is a grip monster.

PS4Ss can handle a lot. In the South Florida heat, they will have more grip than you think.
