Australia M240 brake options 3M1 & 3M2 M Sport brakes but no ZTK/33T M Performance?
Australia M240 brake options 3M1 & 3M2 M Sport brakes but no ZTK/33T M Performance?
First up, I’ve read up as much as I can here already, and thanks to all the people that have put some great info together about the G42 brake options. I just cant find the definitive answer for Australian cars though. I’m pretty sure the “M Performance” 374mm brakes that come on the USA ZTK/33T option (or ZOW Canada) are not available in Australia. But I’d love to know if I am wrong before I order a car. I’m basing this on 2 facts: (1) We don’t get the ZTK/33T (cooling and high perf tyre pack/M tech pack) option here (only 33B) (2) The red calipers I have seen on vehicles in Aus don’t show the tell tale “rib” as shown in this thread talking about the 2 different red calipers. https://g87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...4&postcount=23 Australia only get 33B M Sport Package Pro pack which has listed: 3M2 “M Sport Brake, Red High-gloss” But annoying BMW seem to also list the “M Performance” 374mm brakes on the ZTK/33T option as the same 3M2 “M Sport Brake, Red High-gloss”. Searching against VINS vs build options shows that there doesn’t seem to be a unique code for the larger brake. Weird. So no easy way of checking Aus cars for a larger brake. Eg this USA VIN shows 33T & 3M2 3MW53CM00N8C51393 on bimmer.work https://bimmer.work/vin/87b9d3b8d51d...c908a/options/ I would check RealOEM for part numbers vs VINS but RealOEM is no go for G42… Why am I asking? Because I am about to order a fully loaded M240 in Portimao blue but want blue calipers (not red). Dealer says they can request my optioned 33B M Sport Package Pro have the 3M2 (red) option swapped out for 3M1 (blue) but I want to make sure I’m not losing the larger “M Performance” 374mm brakes before I do so. Other info I found: USA/Canada spec details: Info from Apex wheels: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...xgSYB/pubhtml# Tell tale large brake rib from thread: https://g87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...4&postcount=23 This telltale rib is missing from this fully loaded Aus vehicle with 33B (3M2) and 1W0. I’m in the US and have a Portimoa Blue M240i X Drive on order. I did not tick the box for the cooling and tire package. I requested to get blue calipers vs the standard red, but wasn’t able to do it.
My understanding is some US MY 2022 cars could be optioned with blue calipers without the cooling and tire package, but at some point BMW took that away. The only way to get blue calipers in the US is to check the box for the cooling and tire package now.

I know this is not helping, but you really should not have to be going thru this.
My pet peeve is BMWs lack of any detail info on some of the options. My question would be what is different from "stock" with the 3M2 or 3M1 brakes? Your question is valid, is 3M1 a different size caliper than the 3M2? BMW is horrible for giving out specific info on some of the options. I declined the ZTK package as at the time i ordered as i could not verify just exactly what it was. Then of course the differences of options between countries makes it all that more confusing. In my book if a car manufacturer is offering a "sport brake option" it should detail the caliper and rotor size difference from stock, or whatever is different. Or am i just paying extra for some red glossy paint? |

Thanks guys much appreciated. And totally agree BMW should make the information far easier to understand when it comes to options. At least provide a unique code for the ZTK larger brake!
Anyhow, I'm 99% positive the larger brakes arent available in Aus. And I no longer have a problem as I've seen a PB car now with red brakes and will go with that. Hopefully will place order this week on a car. |

No ZTK also meant no oil cooler! Good luck with the purchase. It is a seriously great car. |

Cheers Jay. I was hunting around Melbourne based dealers (and a couple of regionals) to try to grab a August or Sept allocation based on some dealers saying some configurable slots were still available at a couple of dealers in Aus.
Unfortunately I couldn't find one so it will have to be a Oct build and therefore a Jan delivery. So I've taken my foot off the gas a little in ordering one (my F22 M240 only has 32k kms on it, so was only motivated in buying a new one if I could get it asap). But I'll probably sort this out in the next week. Essendon will probably win my business (which is handy as its my current dealer); how'd you go through? Ok, all done. Order in. Essendon managed to get me a 112 open allocated. They were good to deal with. Currently stating build date = 21-Aug, so fingers crossed.
Went Portimao Blue fully loaded. So 1W0 wheels, 33B sports pro pack, Z1B exec pack, black interior with the 711 seats. Now the waiting game... |

I went through Brighton - They were great. ETA was 6-8 months. Car should have been with me before 6 months but due to Melbourne's horrendous quarantine situation I ended up picking up the car on month 7. I've heard that quarantine hasn't improved since earlier in the year. It's still super rare to see M240's in Melbourne. I've only seen a couple Thundernights. Do you have any mods planned? |

That looks great Jay! They do look good in black, and I did think about it, but I swore I'd never own another black car again!
They seem to be very rare around Melbourne (granted so are the F22's). Up until last month I had only seen 3 M240's driving in Melb (including a black one coming out of a Bourke st car park late one night xmas time last year...). They look great on the road when moving. But in the last month I've seen a couple more so thats good to see. Mods? Nah, just a couple of cosmetic things. Black badges all-round, round exhaust tips and potentially a new front lip. Other than that, the car is pretty good. I hope! |

Great to see some Aussie cars!
The brakes and steering are shite but everything else is awesome! Regret not going for the Exec Pack but have since added Remote Start and Drive Recorder Quick turnaround for you! |

Agreed on the brakes. I came from a much lighter M135 on Zimmerman discs and Endless pads. The m240 brakes are disappointing in comparison. I don’t have an issue with the steering. Again, coming from a m135 it’s much the same.
