6MT JB4 Testing Results
Update on the JB4.
Map 2 is solid for 93. However, I wanted to run an E30ish mix in the car. Running map 3 the car got a bit lean. Worked with Terry Burger to test out a different board with a hook up to the fuel pressure sensor. After that AFR looks good and trims were good. Timing was a bit low, so we spoofed IAT sensor to 60 deg. Timing improved. Performance a bit better. Tried map 4. More boost, but car wasn't any quicker. I think the efficiency of the turbos is going down at that point. Maybe with exhaust and intake map 4 will wake up. It's pretty hot and humid out. My test road is junk so car wasn't doing great 0-60s. My best 0-60 on another road is 3.8 but I wanted to run a 1/4. 0-60 on this 1/4 run was 4.1s. Launch control is pulling out a ton of power, but it does let the car spin a bit into 2nd and it goes. Tried it with DSC off, but the road was just too slick to be useful in first and 2nd. TBH for street use, launch control makes it stupid easy to play. I'd like to get on a track and maybe run some drag radials. Based on my MPH and past experiences, I could probably get 11.50-60s on stock rubber and maybe 30-40s on tire if the clutch holds up. Will need to get that 1/8 mile under 7.3 if I hope to crack 10s. |

Follow up run today. Looks like more boost is being limited by the throttle being reduced. This run was on Map 5. Quicker but not what it should be. Basically more boost on inlet side is being reduced on manifold side due to throttle position.
Did some testing with DSC off and it may alleviate the issue. But the issue is how the car responds through the gear row. Not sure if it is a MDM traction control issue or if it is a torque management issue for the 6MT. |

Looks pretty promising for the G87! I loved the JB4 on my F80, but the car had some minor issues with hesitation and the occasional stumbling, apparently ironed out by Terry in later updates, but had already sold the car at that point.
Do you notice the "piggybackness" (as mentioned above), or is it fairly smooth? Have you dyno'd the car?

I think on Map 1 and 2 it's pretty solid. You can feel it come on at times but nothing abrupt.
I've been working on E30 mix and working with them to get everything working well. Right now I'm running Map 4 with a mix. You can feel the transition a bit more, but it also depends on the engine setting. Seems to like sport the best. sport + is more sensitive. Comfort hasn't really worked on Map 4 for me. It would be nice to have the Map change if you go to M1 or M2. |
