Any data logs during track sessions?

Has anyone run a data log during a track event to see if their car knocks or heatsoak?

I know there are a lot of logs for highway pulls…but the extra heat of a track session might be very different, right?

@kern417. Your track day videos got me thinking about this, great videos.

Heatsoak is a common issue on B58s apparently. I experience it regularly during recent track days where ambient temps are at least 80F. I dont think I have experienced engine knock, but the ecu will pull timing so you will just go noticeably slower.

Thanks @Chrispy28_xd

Do you have any cooling/intercooler mods? I’m curious what engine mods you have and how long your track session was?

Thanks!

Yes I have CSF front and side rads. Engine is stock. Our sessions are 20 mins long but I rarely do whole sessions. On hot days, I get 2-3 push laps before I do a cooldown lap. I also sign up for advanced groups where it is open passing and other cars/drivers are fast. If you are just starting out, you may not be able to stress the car enough to overwhelm the stock cooling due to skill/traffic/passing rules.

I was at Laguna Seca recently where ambient temps got close to 90F without much of a breeze. Track temps were very high, and as I expected, I was able to do 2 hard laps before having to do a cooldown lap. I was consistent with this approach in sessions 4 and 5 where traffic was better spaced out. In session 3 though, I let the oil/water get as high as 275/230, but that was because I forgot to turn off the A/C, and I wanted to keep up with the other cars.

I've been told by a couple supra drivers that upgrading the intake manifold will solve all my heat problems, so I pulled the trigger on CSF's intake manifold. We'll find out if it actually does on labor day where I'll be at Thunderhill. Ambient temps will likely be over 100F, so we shall see.

What color did you choose?
I’m looking forward to your feedback if you get the chance to install before labor day weekend. See you there!

I just went with the raw aluminum one since I'll never see it anyway. The install will be happening later this week, so unless something catastrophic happens, we'll definitively know if it can handle track day abuse.
