what turbo for 450whp on 91acn?
Currently stock, looking for ~450whp.. looking for recommendations on what turbo could help me achieve that.
I was thinking the pure stage 2 setup with fbo and bm3 tune? 91acn is pretty bad fuel but that’s all we have. Photo of my 16 LBB Manual on the Cabot trail, first road trip in the car 🙂 |

With more research & considering my local fuel quality I think I would be better off just doing DP/IC/CP and a bm3 stage 2 91acn tune when I do get the mod bug. I love how the car drives now and losing the low end tq with an upgraded turbo seems counter intuitive to my experience |

With the stage 1 turbo and p500..you dont lose the low end torque..its when you step up to the stage 2 & above is when that happens.
The fbo stage 2 tune setup is pretty fun though.. |

Shell 91 used to be alot better than most of the 94 octanes in Canada (except Husky 94) so they aren't completely wrong, that has now changed. Shell released their 93 octane and mobil1 has their 94 octane (which I believe used to be husky 94) and these fuels are actually really really good and actually perform like their rating says.

I noticed there is a new turbo kit for the N55. It’s a ball bearing turbo that seems like it could be better than the Pure but turbos are out of my realm of expertise. It doesn’t require a core deposit and it’s competitively priced!
https://x-ph.com/cts-turbo-f-series-...yABEgJNMvD_BwE I’m currently running the Dorch stage 2 HPFP with the Bend Calibration ethanol sensor and fuel filter. I’m not big on ethanol personally, but I use it since I can mix blends or run a full tank and the ECUtek software I use can self adjust without issues or map switching. I’ve seen a Pure stage 2 put down 420whp on a FBO set up with a high flow cat. Maybe this turbo^ could squeeze out more power but I’m not sure. Best of luck with the build!

Ok so with PS2 + FBO I think you can get 450 whp on 91 ACN if you get a custom tune. I have seen a stock turbo m2 make ~378 WHP on 91 ACN so 450 whp should be possible with PS2 and a custom tune.

You'll need a decent size turbo, and all the breathing mods - inlet, intake, downpipe - and I would even recommend MILVS (mine appear to have 20-30whp peak gains over stock) HPFP and you should be able to manage it.
The biggest issue is going to be octane, but I think it's doable. I'm pretty sure a PS2 on a base OTS tune is about 420whp or so, but that's 93oct

I recommend Pure Turbo; it makes lots of power with a balanced curve, but most importantly, it's reliable and comes with stellar support from the Pure Turbo team.

I have a n55 ewg with pure500, 200 cat, intercooler, made about 460whp on custom e30 tune, b58 hpfp was the limit. But on 91 octane, only made 403whp with ots mhd ps2 tune. This turbo spools just as fast as stock. With custom tune on 93, I think 420-430 would be possible. Pure stage 2 or pure750 can do 450whp on 91. But those turbos would require dropping subframe and it be 2x more labor cost + turbo, compared to pure500 turbo.

I don’t have one with downpipe but I do have this run with stock downpipe on e30 mix tune + b58 hpfp and intercooler + pure500. It’s virtual dyno, but it’s been accurate for me. I had to do smog check so had to uninstall the downpipe, thanks to California. It definitely feels faster with high flow cat, I will have another run after some maintenance.
