I fucked up when jacking up my car

More specifically, lowering my car.

I was working on my car, jacked it up and placed a jack stand under what i thought would be okay. Forgot to remove it and now I have a cracked pan leaking fluid. Can anyone provide some guidance on what it is, what part is it, and how fucked am I? Is it something I can replace myself and add fluid back in? Thanks.

Broke the oil pan of your transmission. There’s a filter built into the pan and they’re easy to change. Do not start or drive your car till you fix the pan and top off with fluid. You can Google to find the YT videos.

If you’re not DIY experienced then tow to an Indy Shop for them to fix and fill.

Um... that's a big no no. Bummer man. Weve all been there. Live and learn I guess.

Pretty sure you need this part. Honestly not too expensive of a mistake. Could have been much worse

Funny thing is, i knew i wasn’t supposed to put the jack stand there. As i was putting it there, i thought, “theres no way the cars coming down anyways, I’ll just leave it here”. Definitely a live and learn moment. Definitely not making this mistake again. Thanks for the input.

Do i need to replace the filter in this situation?

Take a breath and fix it right! Don't take a shortcut.

We've all been there.

Never like to see that but it could have been worse. Hopefully you get it sorted soon.

Sucks but not a huge deal.

But, how were you using the jack stands? You put a stand there but didn’t lower the car onto the stand then ‘lowered/dropped’ the car onto the jack stand? Or put the jack stand there, put load onto the jack stand then put more load by lowering the car? How many jack stands were you using? Do make sure you understand how to properly use jack stands - placement, load bearing, removal, etc. Mistakes can be deadly.

Look for a ZF8 pan kit on FCP/ECS. It comes with the pan (filter is part of the pan) and the mounting bolts (supposed 1-time use). You’ll also need a liter or three of stock trans fluid.

At least it's metal! Lot of them are plastic / nylon these days.

I have two jacks and two ramps. I reversed the car onto the ramps, and then jack the front up with the two jacks. I then put a jackstand under the front of the car (and this time under the transmission pan).

I got excited when i finished my dinan exhaust valve install and rushed the lowering of the car. Lowered it without checking anything else underneath and put it on the jack stand. Put one side down and then went to the other side and noticed it was going down. Realized what happened and jacked it back up but it was too late.

Yes, definitely a lesson learned moment -.-

obviously it's far too late for you now but in the future the G8x has a central front jacking point that would have been a good spot for your jack stand if you were using it as a safety net like you described.

For what it's worth, I have a set of Race Ramps Wheel Cribs that I use all the time as long as I'm not pulling my wheels. That might be something you could look into as well. https://www.raceramps.com/cribs/wheel/p/rr-wc-12-2/

I’m your average home mechanic but would not get underneath a car being held up by jacks. This approach also helps to avoid an incident like yours as you would have either put load onto the trans pan initially (unlikely) or moved it to an appropriate spot so that the jack stand could be used to support the load. Then you have to lift the car to remove the stands.

i have the 14" 2 piece supercar cribs, you don't need the supercar but i wanted the 14" and the extra wide platform is nice to have. I also have the 3" trax-jax ramps which i use in order to be able to reach the center front and rear jack points.

This is the exact ones I have. https://www.raceramps.com/cribs/wheel/p/rr-wc-14-sc-2/
The 2 piece supercar set.
I like the extra Width over the regular ones and buy buying the two piece set I can put all 4 corners up on 7 inches of lift which is more than enough to get under the car.
I have actually never had the car up on the full 14 inch height

Yes. If a man can love an automotive device, I love it. 42" of lift, easy up and easy down, infinite height adjustments.

To the OP, the damage isn't too terrible. Lucikly it's a modular part that can be easily removed and replaced.

I mean, it could have been way worse!
