Cobra Venom Race Rear Axle Back (Back Box Delete) Performance Exhaust

Hopefully, this isn't a double-post. I didn't see anything about it and it only dropped on youtube 5 days ago.

Looks like Cobra Sport dropped its axle-back exhaust. Sounds pretty decent (keep in mind that this system isn't valved for those who care).

https://cobrasport.com/collections/b...rmance-exhaust

Video with their introduction. The actual sound starts at 2:19

I have the Dinan axle-back exhaust ordered but this one sounds decent and pretty cheap for a deeper tone (if you don't care about it being non-valved and want to keep the stock look or install your own tips since some mentioned the Dinan quad tips being a tad big).

Cheers.

Who's the Einstein that thought it was a good idea to dub that high pitched music over his voice?

Wouldn't you want to add resonators to reduce/eliminate drone, if the rear muffler is deleted?

I think he said (hard to hear him with that stupid music dubbed over his voice) there was no added drone, but I'm not buying it. I'd be shocked if that were the case!

This axle back exhaust seems like a clean way to do a muffler delete but designed to work with the axle indicators meant for the M Performance Axel-back Exhaust. Seems somewhat competitively priced for around $550 compared to it's axel back peers, and it definitely costs less than the average axel-back exhausts I've seen.

Just to be clear it looks like this is a cut factory exhaust and can't go back if you don't like it?

Well I suppose you could weld your old exhaust back on again 🤔.

Any reputable muffler shop can put your OEM pipes back on.

Point being you must cut stock exhaust. I understand it's with in human capability to weld/wind band clamp an exhaust back together

I deliberated between this and the Dinan and went Dinan. I love it

I went with Dinan as well. Cobra sounded good in the video but no one can convince me that there's no drone and Dinan is synonymous with BMW for decades so I am happy with my choice.

This is my kneejerk concern also. There is still some sort of resonator up stream if I remember correctly?

Completely agree. Since it’s pretty much all in once you cut the old one off I like the trust I had in the Dinan

What do you mean by not valved? Like it doesnt have the flaps that block one of the exhausts?

Exactly that. This is a complete muffler delete which also gets rid of the exhaust valve.

What is the legality status of a back box delete like this in the UK? Will it pass MOT?

Gov.uk:

Quote:
8.1.1. Noise suppression system

You must inspect:
  • exhaust silencers
  • under-bonnet noise deadening material fitted as original equipment - you do not need to inspect this for Class 3 vehicles

You must use your judgement to assess exhaust noise:
  • during the emissions test for the vehicle
  • rev the engine to around 2,500rpm or half the maximum engine speed if this is lower on vehicles not subject to an emissions test

Exhaust noise from the vehicle must not be unreasonably above the noise level you’d expect from a similar vehicle with a standard silencer in average condition.
Just wondering what happens if 1) there is no silencer to speak of and 2) the noise level at 4000 RPM is 100.9 dB, so during the test at 2500 RPM it will be louder than the current restriction of 72 dB?

Hmm, almost $600 for a couple of exhaust pipes .... And you have to hack your factory exhaust off ?
